They've got the questions on the Those Were The Days forum (albeit presented in a scattered haphazard fashion) since last visiting but encountered difficulties loading the page to provide those questions.

I've followed Town for 57yrs and never knew we'd played at Wembley before the 1978 Cup Final. I can't believe it wasn't better publicised in 78 in the Wembley build up unless it went over my head with all the euphoria.

Match Report

By their splendid display at Wembley Stadium against Ealing, Ipswich Town proved that the form of the previous week, when they lost to Walton United, was all wrong.
From start to finish they had the upper hand of the Londoner, although it was only a very few minutes before half-time that they were able to register a goal.
The trend of the game will give the selection committee something to think about, because of the four goals scored, three of them came from H. Rogers, who got somebody's knee in his thigh, which caused his retirement for ten minutes, was operating at outside left.
The compulsory reformation of the front line, which led to Bugg going centre and Burch inside left, worked splendidly.
The whole of the Ipswich eleven were good, and impressed the 1,200 spectators - there were still some empty seats - with their dashing tactics, combined with the real team spirit which served them in splendid stead.
A big feature of the game was the lovely centreing by J. Green, which culminated in two goals being headed in, whilst a third was similarly scored from a lovely cross by Rogers. The fourth was one of Gibbs unstoppable specials.
The springy turf was every bit as good as when Blackburn Rovers beat Huddersfield last April in the Cup final, and the Ipswichians certainly appreciated the going.
There is no doubt that Ealing, so accustomed to playing in stiff clay, are handicapped by having conditions so ideal.
They were able to turn out a stronger side than they anticipated, for both Thurgar and Bazell, injured the previous week, were fit enough to turn out, and the only serious absentee was Max Woosman.
There were new names in the team certainly, but they were there with the idea of strengthening it.
Ealing were at their best towards the end, when three goals in arrears. They then did a lot of good work, and had Christopherson, their centre-forward, been anything like as good as James or Farnfield, Nichols would not have had such an easy afternoon between the uprights.
The latter only had one shot to save in the first half; in the second he was in a muddle once, when Ealing only had themselves to blame for nut putting the ball into the empty net, and, though he was brought into action several times, there was nothing particularly difficult for him to do.
Colby played the best game of his career, Taylor was fast and "tricky", and Worth justified his inclusion at left half. Milne kicked finely and with judgement, and Webster defended to good purpose.
Rogers headed two goals, Bugg one, and Gibbs drove in another. The presence of the first named after a compulsory rest through a sprained wrist, lent stability to the forward line.
The Town have now played two league games, both away, and have scored seven goals to one against.

You would imagine we'd have been there for the 1962 Charity Shield event against that great Tottenham team of the time but guess they found an alternative venue to stage it at.

In retrospect it was something of an honor to play a decisive game against the caliber of players such as Greaves, Dyson, MacKay, Blanchflower, John White etc and it's a pity the national stadium wasn't selected for it.
