News has just broken on the death of Graham Taylor

My daughter and myself met him once at an airport on our way back from an England game.
He had quite a long chat with us and my daughter had her photo taken with him. I thanked him and he said "no problem, if you can take the time to follow England away I can certainly take the time to speak to you".
A real gent.

Also met him during his first spell with the Hornets. A genuine, sincere and very funny man,
whose passing is a sad loss to the game. Sincerest condolences to his family and many friends.

That's a bit of a shock. I bet The Sun will deliberately ignore their nasty 'Turnip' campaign they started against him and gush all over him now.

Sad news. RIP.

Always came across as a really genuine guy but a very poor manager, just my opinion of course. The documentary they did on him when close to the sack was one of the funniest things ive seen. RIP.

He wasn't very good at International level, but he got Watford promoted from Div 4 to 1 I think, and got them promoted again when he went back there.

I believe he tried hard at Molineux, was unlucky with injuries, and always came across as honest and sincere.
He was sacked too early at Wolves, something that Sir Jack himself regretted.

Whilst he was never one of my favourite managers of his generation I believe he did a decent job particularly at Watford where he was outstanding.

Famous for being the youngest player to be a qualified FA Coach at the age of 27.

Far too young to die and a loss to the game especially to Watford FC where he was still connected.

Was sorry to learn of today's news. Took Watford from being a largely obscure team in the 1980's to the verge of honors albeit short lived. (Could have taken the '84 Cup Final on another day but the designated referee decided a foul on the opposition goalkeeper warranted a goal, no complaints in retrospect)

The national appointment was ill advised but following on from taking Aston Villa to second place in 1990 can see why the Football Association showed enough interest. Sympathies to his immediate family and closest friends. Respect to Watford Football Club on what for sure is a very poignant day for all parties at Vicarage Road.

Once again the outpouring of kind words when someone such as Graham Taylor is untimely taken is heart-felt and heart-warming.

He had his critics as a coach, but not as a man. A true gent. A kind man. A family man.

So how about a lasting tribute from all posters?

Instead of spouting off abuse at 'useless' and 'clueless' managers and coaches, and demanding instant dismissal after a handful of poor performances or results, how about we remember how often we look back with regret and fondness... and resolve to change?

GT was a man much hurt by the personal abuse hurled at him by media and fans. As a lasting tribute, how about confining our concerns, criticisms and complaints to FOOTBALLING matters, and resolve NOT to hurl personal insults, obscenities and the like? Criticism is fine - when constructive; abuse NEVER is. It demeans the abuser as well as the abused.

Wouldn't the world be a nicer place; one in which we would all prefer to live?

RIP Mr Graham Taylor - a gentleman.

A lot of stuff about Graham on the Jeremy Vine Radio 2 broadcast, and he definitely sounded like a complete gentleman. Also didn't realise just how tough his life became near the end of his England management.
