Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
Three things....., 1/ How good is Bunn? 2/ Is he essentially League One class? And 3/..... (IF he's decent) , have BURY more money to spend than Ipswich, FFS!??
If three is correct, (which I'm sure no one will be able to confirm) Mevans, GTF, now please.

I think MM has been very happy to allow the ZBunn rumour to provide a smoke screen for his real target who is reportedly about to sign . Deals don't get fine that quickly do ZBunn must have never been the target !!

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
Bunn is surely too good for League One !! According to reports they beat several championship clubs to his signature? Find that hard to believe. I agree with Hallam, clearly a smokescreen

Don't think we need a wide player anyway.
Not sure about this smokescreen theory.
Who are they trying to put off the scent.... Other clubs, journalists or the fans?
Mick also said yesterday that the Bunn thing was not top priority and they were looking at someone else. We need a striker .... A decent sized one who's not just a lump or a beanpole who knows where the goal is.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
If you look at Harry Bunns career you'll see he's never moved more than a short drive from his birthplace Oldham. He probably still lives with his mum and doesn't want to leave home.
My guess is that he was close to signing for Ipswich but didn't want to move away from his roots.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
Hi All: New season starts with a good result, now if we are looking more local for a lower league striker what about John Akinde from Barnet or Simon Cox from Saaffend both had double figure goals last season, and might be keen on a move upwards ???

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
Don't know what that Bunn furore was about. TWTD was in a frenzy over the player for a time and lo and behold it's come to nothing. Can't be that expensive if a team the stature of Bury has got his signature.
Didn't go unnoticed that Pitman scored two on his Portsmouth debut today. Maybe a change of scenery was what was needed but now he's dropped down a level, may find it easier to find goal with weaker defenses.

TBH, and this is just my thoughts............................
Preston have signed a striker on loan, and this has prompted speculation on Hugill's future
It "might" be possible this is the striker MM is after, and has just been waiting for Preston to get a replacement first.
No rumours, no links, Just my opinion.

By all accounts Preston are now wanting 6 Million for Hugill so we have zero chance of that happening, TBH I wouldn't want us to pay more than 1.5 for him anyway.

Well if that's the price Mike, they can do one.
Even at £1.5 million its a risk.

Pretty sure Ian Milne said, yesterday, that we're looking at doing further/future business with Man City. No names or time-frame; but he seemed to suggest an 'informal' relationship. Could prove beneficial, providing it doesn't impede or restrict the development of our own youngsters.

Absolutely spot on, KL.... £1.5M is still a risk. Laughed my a$$ off a £6M. People need to go look at his stats........ he's another Tampon Shitskin. I'm hoping McCarthy didn't think about signing this guy for too long.K L Blue wrote:bluemike wrote:By all accounts Preston are now wanting 6 Million for Hugill so we have zero chance of that happening, TBH I wouldn't want us to pay more than 1.5 for him anyway.

Looks like the mystery striker is coming from Rangers who are reported to have accepted a bid of around £1 million for striker Martyn Waghorn.

Has not scored many goals during his time only at rangers and where have they been playing the last few years....lower division football.
Time will tell.

We're also in for Cardiff 's Craig Noone (winger ) 29yrs of age ( reportedly OIRO £500K for him) ...plus the Leicester winger on a SLL .
Relegation candidates?? I dont think so ...I might even put a few quid down on us not to go down!

Harvey Barnes is apparently the Leicester winger on MM's loan radar. Haven't heard Craig Noone mentioned in dispatches recently....would MM want to sign both wingers? Both would be potentially good additions though.

For goodness sake, why does McCarthy have to give every player a bloody childish nickname?

Anyone else heard we are interested in Stevenage striker Matt Godden? Would be surprised myself.

cant see it, id say MM wouldn't want any more than 4 senior strikers, add to that we do have a couple of young guys if we got very desperate who could possibly add to the squad.bluemike wrote:Anyone else heard we are interested in Stevenage striker Matt Godden? Would be surprised myself.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
I'd have thought with McGoldrick, Garner, Waghorn & Sears we have as much up front strength as we've seen at Portman Road for a while especially if Didsy can stay fit, my only concern is that we have limited height with DM the tallest at 6ft 0in, however looking at how many career goals Jermaine Defoe has to his credit this doesn't necessarily have to be a major concern.
To buy a fifth striker would probably be a waste of money, I'd much prefer to see McCarthy establish a settled first choice line up rather than tinker each week to give them all game time. Certainly it will be interesting to see who of these are his preferred pairing, personally I'd like to see how Garner & McGoldick work together, or if we want to go all out attack have Garner down the middle with Didsy & Waggy either side. Either way I don't see too much game time for Freddie Sears other than coming off the bench.
What do others think ?

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
The Stevenage link could well be one of the many strikers MM had been offered, or was looking at, recently. He said himself that loads had been flagged up to him, from a variety of sources, and he'd spent some time watching clips of them in action. I dare say that Bunn was in that bunch, but we decided to pass.
Or, as HB says, either Didsy or Sears is heading for the exit door - more likely to be the latter, if that was the case. Although MM has also stated he wants two quality players for each position.
If anyone else does arrive, still think it more likely to be a wide player: Noone from Cardiff, or the Leicester lad on loan.

Note that Harvey Barnes, a Leicester winger, who was mentioned recently as a possible MM loan signing, has joined Barnsley on a similar basis. We may see him tomorrow!
