Apparently we have had a bid of 1 Million for Scotland International John McGinn rejected by Hibs. If true it does indicate we are going to be splashing some money at last.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
Very good player, albeit, very strange way of running; low centre of gravity, not many players can get near the ball when they are close. Full of energy, can run for the full 90. And doesn't dive. In fact it was him who was halved in the 4th minute of the Cup Final, but instantly got up, won the ball back and made the pass to Cummings, who in turn passed onto Stokes for the first goal. Any other player would've been rolling about Clutching body parts.
Speaking with a cousin yesterday and he reckons any club would need to double that figure plus a few more ££££'s on top.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
From what I've read we certainly won't get him for less than £1.5m plus add ons so unless we're prepared to go the extra mile we're probably wasting everyone's time.
I just wish we'd get serious when it comes to player purchases rather than grow a list of players names that we nearly got but fell short. It seems like we do this every transfer window just to be able to say we've been trying to add to the squad but we'll have to make up the numbers with loan players.
I know it sounds syndical but it's not meant to be.
Come on boys, if he's the player you really want just buy him rather than make do with a lower cost option further down the shopping list who might cost less but won't do the same job. If you can't find an extra £500k in this business you really shouldn't be involved in running a football club at this level.

If any deal is going to be made, hopefully the Celtic deal with Hendo back on loan is the one.

Great news, id be far more positive about this signing ahead of garner or Spence, we need huws and probably one other playmaker style midfielder. If we get this one over the line then fair play. Seems we are willing to spend "sensible" money which is all we've ever asked for.bluemike wrote:BBC are reporting we have had an offer accepted by Cardiff for Huws !!!!! Yes, let this be true.

TWTD reporting similarly. Can only be excellent news - hopefully get the fine detail signed and sealed as quickly as possible. No Pooh traps, please!
Interesting possibility of Moore and Emmanuel going out on loan to Rotherham. Can understand the former, not so sure about JE. Limited cover at RB; no way should LC be considered as an option! Unless MM has something further in the pipeline.

I think it's a good thing to send young Emmanuel out on loan provided we have a 24 hour recall on him or something.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
Depends on the nature of the loan deal. There's no recall option if a season long loan is agreed. Were that to be the case, then there would be no obvious cover for Spence; unless he provides the cover for a yet to be recruited RB.bluemike wrote:I think it's a good thing to send young Emmanuel out on loan provided we have a 24 hour recall on him or something.
But cannot believe MM would allow a no-cover/no competition situation to exist.

I don't see it being a season long loan by any stretch of the imagination, unless of course we have another arrival who can play RB but I doubt that

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
personally id rather see JE start the season at RB and give him a chance to establish himself. I don't envisage him holding the spot for the season, but I think we need to blood him in and to do that he needs consistent opportunities. He played quite a few games, hopefully has been working hard to improve during the close season, hes not exactly a skinny young lad, hes very strong, can attack quite well but does get caught out a bit at the back, but he will only improve that by playing. However with all this being said if MM has no intention of playing him and he will only ever be 2nd choice (at least for the start) then I wouldn't be too unhappy with him going out on loan and playing regular games as a first choice, providing we can get him back if we need to.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
I see it differently, for me Spence is a much better option, I have been really impressed at how he tries to play the ball out of trouble in a controlled way and always looks to make a pass as opposed to just clearing it. His covering of other defenders at key times is also very good, one such example at home to Newcastle prevented an almost certain goal. While I have no issue with Emmanuel at all I do think getting some experience on loan is the way to go. No doubt he will get chances for us this season and could do a kenlock who surpassed Knudsen with ease.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
Don't get me wrong I was also reasonably impressed with Spence, by no means am I saying hes no good. I guess hes also quite young but just felt Josh Emmanuel has the ability to be our number 1 RB and would benefit from playing a lot more. All I meant is that if Mick does decide Spence is his out and out number 1 RB (and I wont lambast him for that) then it probably would benefit Josh going out somewhere on loan and getting proper game time.bluemike wrote:I see it differently, for me Spence is a much better option, I have been really impressed at how he tries to play the ball out of trouble in a controlled way and always looks to make a pass as opposed to just clearing it. Oh and I also think Knudsen will once again be number 1 LB, if that's the case I cant get my head round it but there you go, its Micks head on the line this time round and if he puts his faith in JK then he is betting his job hes the best option we have.

As soon as Kenlock was hooked at half-time in the last game, I felt MM was thinking ahead to the start of next season where he would start Knudsen at LB.
i will be astonished if Knudsen doesn't start next season as first choice LB.

Re: Rumor Mill 2017/18
Ideally, were funds available, we should go for better quality/experience in both full back positions. Knudsen is below standard at this level; whilst Spence, currently ahead of JE in experience, decision making and positional sense, is competent - but no more. In truth he's a player MM sort of stumbled upon, took a punt, and it's turned out OK. Kenlock and JE are both work in progress, with clear potential to be first choice FBs, but doubtful whether ready yet to complete a full season. Agree, though, that both need to be playing regularly. I think MM will go for Kenlock at LB/wing back; Knudsen actually performed better as a CB!
But, whoever gets the nod, it would be good to stick with a settled defensive unit - and keep everything crossed that it includes Bart!

5 or 6 million for Bart and bring Ruddy in on a free would have done for me
