Just a day out, BUT.

A great read from the Mix, god bless you Lawrence (Oldwulf) :( try reading Lawrence's poem and not feel his pain.

Lawrence's OLDWULF Last trip to the Mol. and last post on MolinuexMix

I’ve just returned from an unforgettable day out as Wolves’ guest at the final match of the season at Molineux. They gave me free use of an Executive Box in the Steve Bull stand, together with seven of my friends and relations. They wined and dined us and were so courteous and friendly that we came away feeling a million pounds. We were level with the goal line at the Stan Cullis end and our hosts even managed to arrange a headed first minute goal right in front of our eyes. The highlight came with a knock on the door, and there was the one and only Steve Bull with a camera man, to take shots of us all with the great man. He really is a genuine, top bloke.

Then Matt Doherty came in and presented me with the signed shirt he would have worn if he had not been out with a hamstring strain. Many thanks, Arctic Rime, for organising this lovely surprise.

And my final visitor was Pumpking himself, who set the whole thing in motion. What a lovely man he is. Thank you PumpKing from the bottom of my heart for making my last day at Molineux so special and memorable. As you say, what a very special club Wolves is.

And finally, thanks to Laura, so kind and friendly, who made sure all our needs were attended to, and to the brilliant catering staff.

THANKS AGAIN.

.......................................................................

Before the glue on this sticky loses its tackiness I would just like to sign off one final time from Molineux. It has been a fabulous 60 years, but PD has finally caught up. I wrote a poem, cocking a snook at it after my holiday 2 years ago.

Mr P., the Devil on my Shoulder

A PAIN

Although my health is fairly grotty we went last year to Lanzarote.

We booked assistance on the train and also on the aeroplane.

Two seats are saved for Chris and me, but tagging on is Mr P.

I should have said “Get lost - goodbye!” but he’s still with us in the sky.

Our seaside chalet, though the best, contains an uninvited guest.

It’s Mr P, a tiresome rotter; a very much unwelcome squatter.

Essentially, he is a leech – on boats, in chalet, and on beach.

It’s hard to know what irks us most as he pursues us down the coast.

My balance problems make me sway – because he just won’t go away.

He’s in the shop: my change I fumble and make the shoppers tut and grumble.

He’s at the checkout: things just STOP. I dither, holding up the shop.

When buying tickets on the bus his presence makes the driver cuss.

Regrettably, such trials abound whenever Mr P’s around.

IGNORE HIM

I think I’ll show him I don’t care; I’ll just pretend he isn’t there.

If I don’t dwell too much on me, then I won’t think of Mr P.

For though I stumble, sway and drool it doesn’t matter much at all.

I’ll focus on my spouse’s needs and help her out with loving deeds.

For you’ll agree it’s only fair that carers sometimes get some care.

One night we ambled, on the hunt for wholesome food, along the front.

The weather started very warm, but later an almighty storm

Whipped sandy debris through the air towards the sea, and dumped it there.

In desperation for some shelter, we ran in panic – helter-skelter.

But then some sand blew in her eye – so sore it almost made her cry.

With contact lenses it’s unkind when gritty sand gets in behind.

She clung to me, her eyes unseeing. Just one solution – let’s keep fleeing!

At last I led her from the storm inside a cafe, safe and warm.

No sign at all of Mr P; let’s hope he’s been blown out to sea.

My good deed’s safely done today – the ending of our holiday.

THANKS BOSS

My wife’s been always at my side; we’ve hiked, and shared a camel ride.

We’ve handled hot volcanic lava; more fun by far than P’s palaver.

For Mr P is mean and small, but Chris and I feel 10 feet tall.

A friend and helper she has been: she is the rock on which I lean.

So thank you, Chris, with all my heart for playing such a loving part.

As certain as the ocean tide, I know you’ll be there at my side.

GOOD RIDDANCE

To P I say: “For goodness sake, do give yourself a lengthy break.

“Just stay out here, come sun or rain, and never cross our paths again.

“Why don’t you eat and swim and roam; far, far away – we’re going home.

“I’ll face my life a little bolder, now I’ve dislodged you from my shoulder”.

It’s good to take a positive attitude to it, but I’m afraid PD only gets worse, but who knows, a cure might be found and I might be back! Pending that, I will still support Wolves as I have always done, even from my wheel chair if it comes to that. And I will still continue as a (mostly passive) member of Molineux Mix.

God bless all of you.

Lawrence (Oldwulf)

Fecking hell, Wolfie!!! No mascara warning? Sitting here nearly bawling my feckin eyes oot man! I wish I could've shown my father in law that poetry.

Those were brilliant. Lawrence is an absolute hero, and a very brave man. Hoping he manages to get to many more Wolves games.

And you too, buddy. Hopefully next season is one to remember for the ITFC, the Wolves, the Cabbage & Ribs......... and ok, The Loons! :D And all for good reasons.

The wife is getting two holidays this year, mate. Ibiza with her mother, and then road cycling with the youngest son in the Outer Hebrides. Had to ask if they actually had roads! No holidays for me, but plenty to do with both work and house redecoration. As everyone probably knows, house redecoration always goes smoother when wife's are in Ibiza! :D
