August Fixtures
Birmingham City (H)
Barnsley (A)
Millwall (A)
Brentford (H)
Fulham (H)
So 15 points up for grabs in the opening month of the season, how many do we think we may get from these games ? Me being ever the optimist will go for 9/10 points and a victory at Luton in the cup too. The Sun has got to me.

Re: August Fixtures
The last two will be very tricky I think.
Shame we have so many players already out Before a ball has even been kicked.

Birmingham (home) 3 points
Barnsley (away) 1 point
Millwall (away) 0 points
Brentford (home) 3 points
Fulham (home) 1 point
Maybe being too generous there, if today was anything to go by the team will let us down badly. As for the (irrelevance) of the League Cup game, we could have fielded Yashin, Moore, Best, Di Stefano and Greaves if it were possible and still be eliminated. McCarthy doesn't give a rat's as* about progress in cup competition, the club should omit itself from any involvement before it's even underway.

Re: August Fixtures
3-4 points at the very best and cup exit at Luton.
Wafer thin squad, the manager who isn't open for the attacking football. It doesn't bode well.
We need a quality to be signed as 3-4 players out due to injury/illness and we have no competitive team.
Some players need to motivate themselves too. Take Skuse and Chambers for example. Both live in the very comfort zone. According to reports Chambers had a real nightmare yesterday.
My suspicion is that it's going to be the same old story before the end of the transfer window. A couple of loanees/freebies to come to fill the gaps. That's f*****g Marcus Evans and his policy for the club

Re: August Fixtures
Birmingham City 1pt
Barnsley 0pts
Millwall 1pt
Brentford 3pts
Fulham 0pts
5pts and League Cup exit. Luton are a decent side.
The Charlton fixture hasn't helped the mood prior to season KO. Understand what Mick is saying regarding it being a meaningless fixture but the mood wasn't exactly buzzing before this game. Potentially damaging fixture and hopefully the idea that its given the players a kick up the ar$e is a "good idea". Birmingham, with 'Arry, will be out for the 3pts at PR.
In the words of a dear old hibee friend who passed away recently, "Snow gonnae be easy!" (He used to say that before EVERY fixture)
"Snow gonnae be easy, son!"
"It's Gala Fairydean, Fred."
"Aye, no easy!"

Results in football as unpredictable as they are these days, they'll pump Brum 5-0 next week.ipswichtownNo1 wrote:A point at millwall and a win at luton. Cant see us getting much more out of that fixture list. Bottom come september.

Re: August Fixtures
We should be able to pick up a win and a draw at Millwall and Barnsley, both these teams are likely relegation candidates, and at least a win and a draw out of the three home games with a defeat at the hands of Fulham.
I'll settle for 8 points, anything less against these five rivals will indicate a very tough season, 8 points would also indicate a mid/ top half of the table finish.
Do I think we'll achieve this ?..... probably not without strengthening the current squad?

Re: August Fixtures
11 points from these games would be the level of form required to finish the season in the Top 3 and we have 12 points already with one game still to play.
Whilst nobody could ever have dreamed of this kind of start we still haven't met any of the top teams yet, that said how many other Championship teams have a strike force to compare with McGoldrick, Garner & Waghorn which is by far the strongest front trio we've had at Portman Road for years.

Re: August Fixtures
These four games in are something that no fan of the team could have envisaged. You could make a comparison with the fifth place finish in the EPL back in 2001 in that while not in the realms of impossibility, it's a remarkable achievement that has caught just about everybody out. Thought, maybe win one or two league encounters and a cup exit - to win all five fixtures that have come our way thus far is within the boundaries of fantasy.
Next opposition team is Fulham, who have yet to win a game. Maybe something ominous in it, soccer has a warped sense of humor, so not taking anything for granted. Best start by any Ipswich squad for some 15 + years and if the momentum continues we'll have a very good opportunity, but best to make proper evaluations at say midpoint of the season or time of new year. Desperately want to league this league behind after being housed here since 2002.

Re: August Fixtures
I was pretty pleased too with suggesting a win and a draw at Millwall & Barnsley away and a win & a draw in our first two home matches with a defeat at the hands of Fulham.

Re: August Fixtures
Ideally, Mick McCarthy should have been awarded the month honor for Championship manager, but nothing has been disclosed. Either the award has been discontinued or there's been some significant oversight.
That start we endured was surely deserving of award status but nothing has been put forward, almost as if what we accomplished hasn't been recognized.

Re: August Fixtures
Don't know if it's been discontinued, SJ, but had Mick won it, maybe Warnock wouldn't have been too pleased.
