List our “ quality” players
Just following on from Rossi’s post, it got me thinking. Are we REALLY devoid of 5rue quality , or is it they are simply injured or McCarthy just doesn’t pick them? So thought I’d tr6 and list what I feel are quality players at the Club.

Re: List our “ quality” players
Personally I think we have a few quality players within the squad, unfortunately MM has been hampered by numerous injuries which hasnt helped his cause, for me the following would all be on my retained list :-
Bialkowski
Gerken
Webster
Chambers
Huws
Adeyemi
Dozzell
Downes
Bishop
Nydam
Waghorn
Garner
Drinan
The following would be 50/50 for me :-
Kenlock
Skuse
Ward
Spence
The following have to be got rid of :-
Knudsen
Iorfa
Gleeson
Sears
McGoldrick
Bru
Rowe
Hyam
Emmanuel
The kids coming through show promise and it would be nice to think the likes of Woolfenden, Morris, Webber, Patterson, Folami and McKendry all have a part to play.

Don't get to see as much of the team in live action as some others so opinion will be limited. First and foremost Bialkowski, then Waghorn and Celina (even if technically not 'our' player)
Connolly maybe deserves inclusion and Bru also. One or two seem to get castigated week in week out so they can be safely omitted. Apologize if appears vague but as again there will be others with better understanding.

Re: List our “ quality” players
It could be some players - either picked or not by MM - could flourish under a different manager.
Ward is one who is anonymous in a couple of games and then shows some quality. Kenlock hasn’t been given any real chance to develop. Until he’s given 10-15 consecutive games in the side it’s hard to know. In contrast, Knudsen has been given 2 1/2 seasons as a regular and Mick has been keen to tell the fans that Knudsen will always be in his side.
All depends who will be manager next season. If Mick, then it’s no so much about quality but who fits in with him.

Yes mate, you need a leader, he is the best captain we have had for years and I don't just mean on the pitch, he has been very instrumental in at least trying to keep what little bit of togetherness we have left between players and fans. I accept he is not the best player in the world but he does at least bloody care.loudnproud wrote:hahahaha....You beat me to it Seriously though. Bart is the only one.....Mike? Chambers!!!! God, just ONE of those players would make a massive difference to the team.
Now I’m depressed for the day and what we’ve lost and where we are now !! Cheers Derek!

Not too sure about Mariner. Those glasses he wears? He'd be struggling to latch on to those world class k-Nood through passes. I may be wrong though. Maybe he's had that laser eye treatment and he'd be fine.

Re: List our “ quality” players
This is the sad thing we will always be faced with, our glorious past is now a burden for any Town Team/player/manager of the future.

Re: List our “ quality” players
To be honest Mike I think it’s more of an issue for the fans than it is for management who probably don’t even give it a thought.

Re: List our “ quality” players
Having just read Derek’s post prompted me to Google Paul Mariner to see where he is now etc.
It also brought home how few of Bobby Robson’s players went on to be successfull managers which is surprising really given how much they would have learned from the great man.
Maybe a topic here for another thread ?

Paul Mariner was manager at Toronto FC a couple of seasons ago... he was out on the East coast managing New England Revolution when he first came here . He is a colour commentator for ESPN in the US now

Re: List our “ quality” players
The clue is in the word "quality". I am not saying that all our players are crap, but I haven't seen a "quality" player in a Town shirt for a fair while now.Bluemike wrote:Really ? You on a wind up ?

Re: List our “ quality” players
Quality also depends on what they're instructions and targets are on the pitch. They're not supposed to knock it about and play classy football. Get the foot in, disrupt play, negate opposition, knock it long, try and nick a goal from corners/free-kicks, play for fine margins, not make mistakes (mistakes being not giving possession away in your own half and not making defensive errors). If you buy into that, then I suppose there are quality players in the team who do their job well. They're more widely known as 'different class'.Tricky wrote:The clue is in the word "quality". I actually feel we have players who have the ability to play better football. We see their 'quality' now and again - but usually when we're behind and the opposition sits back.
Look on the bright side - apart from Bart, our players are unlikely to be targeted by bigger clubs.

Re: List our “ quality” players
I’m looking forward to seeing what a forward thinking manager will do with some of our creative players. We just don’t seem them under McCarthy do we!
