Exeter - Carabao Cup

Post by Bluemike » Sat Jul 28, 2018 11:52 am

Just read this is now sold out for Town fans, hardly surprising considering they only gave us 350 tickets !! Glad I got mine sorted early, is anyone else from here making the midweek hike down there ? A long day for sure but at least we'll go with the intention of taking it seriously and trying to win the damn fixture !!

Was going to say that’s like me going to Aberdeen for a midweek game ......., but it’s really not!

I assume there could be extra time and penalties. Don’t think any of the travelling supporters want that. Bloody long journey.

For the first time in some seasons am prepared to let this competition slide. Each and every time you'd enter and be eliminated in the earliest rounds, more often than not to inferior opposition. Bottom line we're not going to win it and would be surprised to make any significant impact. I may be a pessimist but a realist also. The league is far more imperative although the FA Cup remains a worthwhile endeavor.

I applaud those who are willing to travel the length of the country to attend, your enthusiasm and dedication is commendable and can only hope your efforts are rewarded, but would favor extra points in the league this time over potential progression in this here tournament.

I believe it goes straight to penalties but not 100% sure.

Well given that there may well be a few new faces around by the time this game kicks off I would actually expect Hurst to put out a strong side. He hasn't finished setting up the side properly yet IMO and his preferred XI and preferred style will still need minutes on the pitch at this point. A few cup games might be a good opportunity to move forward faster with the new way of playing.

DB, I think you’re spot on. The pre season has been affected by Shrewsbury’s play offs and the World Cup.... new players coming in and maybe going out.... I reckon Hurst will be desperate to try and get a settled side together as soon as possible and this game gives us an opportunity to get the team to gel. And he won’t want to add an embarrassing cup defeat to his agenda early on.

Sounds like that word has some bad memories for you. Hope it’s nothing to do with Porno Paul’s video show. :)
