Jimmy Mcllroy
Sad to hear the passing of Jimmy Mcllroy, Burnley's talented winger. Saw him when Ipswich gained promotion to the 1st division in 1961. First home game for Ipswich, Mcllroy scored the first goal, Elsworthy contributed an own goal then Ipswich came back with 6 goals to win 6-2. A feat, given the fact that Burnley won the Division the year before.

Re: Jimmy Mcllroy
A true gentleman who I had the privilege of meeting in 1999 at the official opening of his stand when Bobby Robson took a full Newcastle United team to Turf Moor to play a pre season friendly fixture. At the pre match dinner it was brilliant to chat to a few of the 60’s generation Burnley players who could clearly recall their games against Town during a period when both clubs enjoyed a successful period.
Claret & Blue to the end McIlroy was a regular visitor to Turf Moor where he was a true legend.
RIP, Mr McIlroy, you will be fondly remembered for a long time.
