Another pet piece goal massive weakness for us so far this season, at both ends.

Re: Sheffield Wed. vs Ipswich Town Preview and Matchday Thread
Not overly concerned at this stage. Team appears to be playing well, had the better chances and creativity etc. Would seem unfortunate to be behind as it stands. Fact remains if it stays as it is and Queens Park Rangers win their game the team will be in final position in the league in an hour or so.
Put those chances to use and beat this opposition, it's within our capabilities. Just require that breakthrough and sure further goals will arrive our way. Must be near interval stage by now, Hurst needs to emphasize to the players the game is still very much alive and the team has every opportunity to take something from today.

Well
Could be ahead with a bit more luck!
Hopefully we can keep this up and go on and knick it.

Sounds like we've been putting them under real pressure after our goal, hopefully gives us a bit of confidence to push on second half.

Yep sound like we were close to taking the lead, the goal knocked the wind out for a bit but according to the radio we are playing the better football

Nsiala should have a second and Harrison had a great effort saved. Great finish to the half.
Those set pieces.... we look very dodgy defending them ( I think Chalobah got caught twice, once for the goal) and we’ve been wasteful of corners/free kicks. Eduns taking them... but he looks the best player for us. Look forward to the second half.

I truly thought Nsiala got to the ball first... have to see the replay of that red card. Looked bloody harsh again.
And then Bart flapping and missing for their second. Not getting the breaks. I thought we deserved a draw.

Yep, that needs sorted the FK out. Concentrate on that area, Paul.
And not a great fan of Gerken on what I witnessed in the limited times he was on TV, but Bart needs bench time, if all the flapping is to be believed.

Re: Sheffield Wed. vs Ipswich Town Preview and Matchday Thread
There’s absolutely no point playing decent football at the start of the season if it doesn’t win points. The only thing that’s important at this time of the season is putting points on the board and however much you want to win a game, even more important is not to lose as a bad start is very difficult to recover from and impacts negatively on players mental strength.
I’m sure we weren’t helped by the suspect sending off, but by all accounts so far this game should not have been lost.

Re: Sheffield Wed. vs Ipswich Town Preview and Matchday Thread
I expressed concerns before that our players might not have the quality to play the type of football that PH wants us to play.
Our passing accuracy stats fuel those concerns. 62% today, 64% against Derby, 55% against Villa. We might look like we are playing better football than under MM but if we continue to have 55% to 65% passing accuracy then we have a problem.
The longer we stay hanging around the basement the more likely it will be that we lose morale and then we could be in real trouble.
I really felt that Wednesday were there for the taking. Their start to the campaign was poor too. Three points next time out is an absolute must.

Absolutely gutted, two red cards and today it cost us. Bottom of the league and have the scum next weekend so what better way to get our first three points this season. Trying to keep the faith.

Re: Sheffield Wed. vs Ipswich Town Preview and Matchday Thread
Adding to my last comment we better appeal the red card and get it overturned as Nsiala would be a big miss next weekend. I think he's been pretty solid. It would be outrageous if it ended up with a 3 match ban.
Also I am a big fan of Bart but he was at fault for both goals for me. He's got to get himself going again, he's not seemed quite right so far this season. We haven't got time to wait for him to find his feet again. No need for panic yet but we do need to start getting ourselves some points. Sounded like we played reasonably well in patches today, we do need to be more clinical though

Here is an idea for you, Mike........, and for us on the forum.......,
Match report part 1: A brief report immediately after the game with all the emotions the attending fan experiences.
Match report part 2: Usual report over a coffee and bacon roll full of uplifting, positive stuff. Easier on a sunday morning.
Cue Lionel Rich Tea!

When someone has time, could they go onto the Sky app thing, look at the Luton v Shrewsbury game, and please explain to me what the Shrewsbury second goal was all about? Is there a rule I’m not aware of, or is the Luton goalkeeper suffering from Alzheimer’s disease?

have to disagree with that. He went in with his studs showing giving the referee no choice, exactly the same as Ediun last week. Another thing that Hurst needs to sort out fast - no room for thuggery in the game.

Re: Sheffield Wed. vs Ipswich Town Preview and Matchday Thread
I think the first thing he needs to do is sort out how to defend set pieces which should be pretty basic stuff, unbelievably six of our 8 league goals conceded so far this season have been scored from set-pieces, how bad is that.
If we want to look at this positively it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a fix so long as the players are good enough. There I guess lies the one million dollar question.
Hopefully Bluemike will cheer me up later and tell me we’re good enough for 3 points next Saturday !
I just wish I felt more confident.
