Yes indeed. RIP Prince Philip! 99 years old!

Would he have received a telegram from his wife if made to 100 years of age by the summer. 73 years of marriage is really something. Know he had his health issues and released from hospital last few weeks but still shock news all the same. Really expected him to make it to triple figures.

Think him and Elizabeth II had their full quota of pandemic vaccines in recent days but seems academic now. Great ambassador for the UK although sometimes made a mess of things with oft-quoted faux-pas. News doesn't always come much bigger than this. Condolences to the Queen, Prince Charles, Andrew and Anne, Edward also.

Although not completely unexpected I was still saddened to learn of Prince Phillips passing and feel even more sad for The Queen who will be heartbroken after a lifetime together. I have always had so much admiration for him partly because of his unpredictable manner and straight speaking style.

I wonder if Harry will be at his granddads funeral

I’m already waiting for the Meghan angle to come into play. I’m sure she won’t miss an opportunity to get involved.

On TWTD, some have already denounced him as a racist and are sticking the boot in. The bloke is still warm.

I don't think Meghan will travel in her condition and I expect she wouldn't want to come anyway.

He could be a crusty old boy at times but no one can doubt his loyalty to the Queen and country.
I recall an official visit to Ipswich way back in (I think) 1957. He visited our school to lay the foundation stone for a new school hall. He then walked round the playing field where we were all assembled and spoke to many of the pupils before we gave him a rousing send-off by chanting "Vivant" (Latin for Long Live) three times - except for an irreverent group of 11 year olds that shouted "my pants" . Yes, I was 11 at the time.
The hall was built by local builder Sadler who went on to build the Cobbold stand in 1971.

Very sad, though not unexpected, news. Any marriage that lasts 73 is to be admired and a life that long is to be envied. I can only imagine how bereft the Queen is feeling right now.

He was always the most interesting member of the Royal Family to me. Irascible, witty, blunt and unbending in his adherence to his role in supporting the Queen, he was a very complex character.
