Championship Play Off Race !

I can’t believe how tight the race is for the Championship play off places.
At the moment the 8 teams ranked 5th -12th are separated by just 3 points and playing for 2 places.
Just think if it’s this close next year one of these teams could be ITFC.

Just when it looked like Blackburn Rovers would be strengthening their claim of a play off place with a surprise away win at Preston tonight they concede an equalising own goal with the last touch of the game. That could be so costly to Rovers and painful for Dominic Hyam.

To think we’re already on 91 points and not secured an automatic promotion place yet whilst Burnley have won the Championship with 92 points and Leyton Orient have won League Two with 87 points.
League One this season is outrageous at the top and one of Plymouth or Wednesday

are going to be absolutely gutted missing out with more than 90 points.

Tonight in the Championship.......
Van Screwed (1996) vs Attacked whilst walking to the chippy. (1984) ......, couple of very nice places.
Dundee STILL way worse.

I screwed a Luton girl in Benidorm in 1969 and a Middlesbrough girl in York a few years later. As I recall Luton was rougher than Middlesbrough, but that was a long time ago.

You're experiences sound a lot better.
Van robbed in Luton Premier Inn hotel car park........, myself, brother & a few cousins visiting old auntie in Boro early 80's....., another group of teenagers heard the accents....., they set about us big time. Was a hospital job and we made the local breakfast news.

Luton could well be an EPL club name in August. You may think nothing unusual until realize they were a non-league team only a few years recent.
I kind of want Norwich to make the play-offs but on the other hand can't abide the idea.
Either they fail the top six end of season challenge and endure misery and disaster in the semi-finals / Final game but at the same time could go on to win it. Maybe it's best they finish 7th or below and (we'll) not take the chance.
Kind of wanted Millwall to make it back to the elite. Can recall end of 80's in the old First Division they put together a fine team for a while but dropped down and never made it back.
Teams like Blackburn, perhaps Sunderland just seem out of place in the second league. There's going to be an awful lot (in that particular promotion race) of disappointed fans and club names at the end of season.

Nice post, Saint ……. And what it highlights is Ipswich are going to be in amongst some real tough opposition next season ….. again! And at last. 4 years too long for League One but was always predicted.
The relegated teams from EPL, along with the likes of Sunderland, Blackburn, WBA, Stoke etc etc…….. mad scramble for season tickets. And hopefully Bluemike will be back on those midweek buses far & wide in a cold December typing up match reports on his phone.

Edit to add: (Disclaimer)…….. i know its not settled yet…….. but if Exeter or Fleetwood affect Ipswich Towns destiny……. Then Ipswich Town arent ready for the Championship.
PARTY!!!

I Just saw a graph of Luton’s finishing position over the last 11 years.
2013 - 7th in National league.
2014 - won the National League
2015 - 8th in league 2
2016 - 11th in league 2
2017 - 4th in league 2
2018 - 2nd in league 2
2019 - 1st in league 1
2020 - 19th in Championship
2021 - 12th in Championship
2022 - 5th in Championship
2023 - 3rd in Championship
So 2016 was the only time they finished lower than the previous season. An amazing climb even if I don’t like their football.
And Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu has made 366 appearances for them. If they got promotion I believe he could be the first player ever to play for the same club in all 5 divisions from National league to the Prem.
I

What a fairytale story that would be if they win the play offs and get promoted to the Premier League. I’m not sure how their crappy little ground would hold up at the highest level with its 10k capacity but it might not come to that as I’ve a feeling it will be Michael Carricks Middlesbrough who fill the 3rd promotion slot.

I think so too Andy. And I think Bolton for L1 - and a great big thank F we're not involved in that!

Spare a thought for the teams and fans hoping to make the Championship Play-Offs. As it stand at the moment there are 5 teams competing for the final 2 spaces, Coventry (69), Millwall (68), Sunderland (66), West Brom (66) and Blackburn Rovers (66).

I got a certain extent of preference of who makes it. I look at the teams listed and you got say Coventry, SAFC and Blackburn with recent prolonged elite level experience and WBA also but the latter haven't won anything of significance since 1968 or something. Guess their fans deserve something by way of a trip out to the National stadium to witness a showcase event and beating an opponent in a final game to gain access to the EPL. I kind of wish them well.
Reagan was residing the White House last time Millwall appeared as a top league team so say again their fans have waited long enough for something to happen. Had that F.A. Cup Final a few years back but decided on the day not to compete and handed the trophy to their opponents before any damn game were even underway. The hooligan element, reprehensible tag et cetera they get labeled with often seems old hat to some and in truth it'd be entertaining to see them compete at the highest level once again.

I know that PO zone is not settled just yet, but for the size of club, fan base size, and funding levels I hope it’s Luton who go up . They’ve come from non league football (due to points deductions), many would have gone under. So to be where they are now it’s just remarkable . So I’d like them to go up.
The other reason is, Luton makes Beirut look like like the Savoy, and it’s an awful place to visit lol !!

Sunderland certainly finished strong as only a few weeks ago they were close to mid table. Their season must also give hope to ITFC players and fans as to what can be achieved in the season immediately following promotion and without spending a huge amount of money. I think Sunderland spent a max of £6m strengthening their squad which is the sort of amount Gamechanger would most likely make available to Ashton / McKenna.
