Middlesbrough eyeing Walton.

Post by Bluemike » Fri Apr 28, 2023 10:36 am

On their Twitter feed, wouldn't let me Copy the link but go take a look. I guess we're gonna get this with our players even more now, hopefully going up will appease our squad and urge them to stay put.

The players will have really enjoyed this season, it helps that they've had a real chase on their hands and a run of success to (hopefully) attain promotion. Everybody is different, maybe some will want to play for clubs closer to home who they support, or for more money, or for a club they think has greater potential etc and that's fine, it would be better to let them go, as we are now attractive enough to find quality replacements who want to be here.

But the main thing is, it seems this club is doing everything it can to make itself attractive to current and potential players and I just can't see many wanting to leave, we've just dismantled the division for a sustained period. If we're promoted, perhaps next summer will be trickier if the good vibes deflate a little through a season of mediocrity, but at the moment, surely they all want to be here and see how they can do next year.

Harsh to single out Walton, as transfer talk, particularly this early is complete crap, neither club even knows which division they'll be in next season. But how do you think Walton has done, I think it's a bit bizarre if teams just look at the recent numbers the defence has been producing and thought "lets get him", because if you look a little deeper, he's had a decent season I think, but has he really shone like a potential Premier League goalkeeper?!

It probably is crap and to be honest performance wise and consistency wise there are a few players in our team ahead of Walton deserving of recognition, recently he has been brilliant but there was a spell when he was looking very dodgy at times. That said at this level we are lucky to have him.

If Walton travels north and “eyes” Middlesborough, pretty sure he’ll stay at Portman Road.

The same happened to me in the 80’s when the bank wanted to move me to Middlesbrough, I took one look and said no thanks although a few years later I did end up moving from Colchester to Leeds.

 at highlighted part.

But Leeds is ok, no? Might have got worse but did a 2 month contract in Leeds mid 96…… thought it was quite a nice city. Did you move to Leeds?

To add, got to be honest, most places we have worked in England have been decent. Rotherham area of Sheffield being the biggest shithole.

We were warned not to take the Bexleyheath, London contract due to shitholeness and van security. Was one of the nicest areas we ever worked and it was teas and coffees all day long from the clients. Was great.
‘Mon the Ebbsfleet United! :D

They have in the past signed names like Ravanelli, Juninho, Gascgoine was it and a whole load of other high-profile names so you can't rule out the destination or club name as being unfeasible.

Middlesbrough's no Beverly Hills but they're an family-orientated industrial hub that sometimes gets results. It's like the McKenna / Notts Forest rumor, it's tenuous at best but the idea that Walton could transfer over isn't completely outside the realms of possibility.

Just require to ask the question why would the player swap here for there particularly as we'll both be of Championship status by August. I wonder how many players they got on Teeside have a desire or inclination to relocate to Suffolk. Kind of makes you wonder sometime.

Also McKenna and Carrick are mates so don't reckon he'd go to Boro unless KMK wanted it, which of course he wouldn't

I would say not a single current Town player will be wanting to leave this Club come the summer. There will be some difficult decisions for the Club to make however. And I can see one or two players being really disappointed. Don’t underestimate the drive from Gamechanger to get the next phase ( Promotion to the PL), done asap. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see back to back promotions frankly!

I did Marko and really enjoyed it. I was there for 3 years but less than a year in I was seconded to London for a year which made it a bit messy. Definitely a great City but very different to what I’d been used to in much smaller places like Ipswich, Norwich, Chelmsford and Colchester.

Nothing much wrong with Bexleyheath btw, there are far worse places. That said one thing I did learn moving around the country is that whenever you lived and however nice it was there, there was always a shitty area not far away. That’s just the way our Towns and Cities have been built in the UK.

Very true ….. and Edinburgh is case in point.

Holyrood Palace is literally a 1 minute walk (normal pace) from Dumbiedykes. Certainly in the top 10 of Edinburgh shithole areas. And The Queen slumbered a stones throw from the jakeys!
