It never ceases to amaze me how many of these old stars die in their 70’s… that’s below the National average for the general population I think.

What a shame, and 70 is way too young as you say Hallam. What a legend he was and always remember him in my youth as part of that brilliant Utd squad.

Also always remember the Greenhoffs, I was lucky enough to of met Brian on a few occasions in the early to mid 2000's when he worked over in Menorca. Sadly he went far too soon too, far bigger legend's than some of today's prima Donna's.

To score in an F.A. Cup Final is an honor for any player ('79 wasn't it), not everyone can do it and although would have finished on a losing side it's a memory or accolade you can take away long after any playing career has finished.

Think he'd been unwell for some time, some long-standing degenerative issue but still a shame Mr McQueen has passed on. Would have or probably featured in the Scot's participation of the 1978 and '82 World Cup tournaments. Absurd scores with Iran and Peru, beating a great Netherlands team and after that a whipping of New Zealand and seeing a lead against Brazil turn to disaster. You can take some great times away from events like these even if the games don't go to plan or result in failure.

Yep, told this wee story before on here......., was heading up Liberton Brae on a bus from football training in Edinburgh, with cousin, when Dave Narey scored. Bus driver had a transistor radio on and he started bouncing and screaming in his seat. Bus weaving......, we were like, "HAVE WE SCORED?"....., he was like, "WE'RE BEATING BRAZIL"

We got off the bus when it was still 1-0. Always wonder what happened to that bus driver, and other passengers that night.

Well, it was really. No one was more surprised than Narey himself. And what was he doing there in that area anyway v Brazil
But all it did was shift Brazil from 1st into 4th gear…….. Zico & Socrates took over.
TBH, 4-1 was flattering on reflection.

Similar thing happened four years after with West Germany. Scots took a lead and lost the game but only by one goal on that occasion. Abiding memory of the event were Strachan attempting to scale an advert board after scoring and failing to do so.

McQueen wouldn't have been part of the squad in '86 don't think but looking back and the fine players available (Dalglish, Souness, Archibald, McLeish, Miller and Hansen etc) they should have prevailed beyond a first round. Uruguay played dirty and shamed the competition in the final group contest, door were ajar for a Scots progress against 10 men for the entire 90 (89) minutes but somehow messed up. Only those of a certain age or particular area of interest can understand or find word to comment.
