He comes into the Shop where I work. Monday when I saw him he just winked and laughed when I told him he needs to stay put.

Will cost a lot a to prize him away now. Guessing could be clauses in the contract but overall, fantastic news
The club is really heading in the right direction. What joy to be a town fan once again. Morsy next to sign I hope

The best signing we will make all Summer and truly deserved, lets make sure we keep backing him as I am sure this season will be a tough one and not going to go our way all of the time.
I hope all of the coaching staff too will get rewarded as this is a team effort after all.
We are going up! we are going up!

Obviously not in the same league as Lambert as he got a 5 year deal.

Re: McKenna signs new 4yr deal
Great news for the club.
Its not going to be a walk in the park for the club next season, it’ll be difficult.
In League One around xmas, speed bumps were hit, but with a couple signings and some jiggery pokery, KMCK worked it out. Got to urge fans to give him patience next season. Allow him to work it out. Prediction of 9th will be a fantastic season (imo)…… then kick on from there.
If not in the Champions League by 25/26…… halt the 4yrs and kick his a$$ out.

Yep - a good decision and probably made at just the right time, giving maxumum time to plan for the challenge of the Championship.
He may well make the odd mistake at first, but the good thing is his ability to recognise mistakes and alter his original thinkung in order to put things right - unlike others before him who just ploughed on regardless

How nice it is to think about what can happen now, rather than worry about it.

Re: McKenna signs new 4yr deal
There's no way he'll be here for the full four years. What, McKenna still in position this day 4 years from now, somehow I can't see it. The contract extent is very good news but he'll surely up and leave or be lead elsewhere before the time indicated.
Last season was real impressive, for one year alone McKenna were near a plateau with some of our greatest managers even if the team didn't actually win anything but the belief instilled and progress were remarkable. Some could ask if it were a one-season wonder, the Second League up is going to be or prove much harder and a test of the both the individual and players resolve and character but until we're some way into the new season you can't tell just how far we've improved or just how good McKenna is, or could be.
Leicester post believed filled so you can erase that idea although in truth never really envisaged he could make the trip over there.

Just back off holiday, absolutely shocked that anybody on here and elsewhere ever thought KMck would walk away from this project is staggering. Wow, never in doubt he would leave. Been rewarded as expected but jeeezzz, come on stop the guessing here say crap.

Re: McKenna signs new 4yr deal
My wish was almost granted with a new 4 year contract not the 5 years I suggested. Absolutely the right thing to do for the football club and for Kieron McKenna who’s now been given both the time and the security to carry on with and maybe even complete the job he started. What a fairy tale first appointment it would be if he took us from League One to the Premier League in his first managerial appointment. I certainly wouldn’t bet against.
Unlike AP I think he may well be here in 5 years time as long as he gets the backing of the owners and as long as Mark Ashton stays in place as Director of Football / CEO, I think the two of them have a very special working relationship and our biggest risk now is the pair of them being prized away together as a joint partnership by a Club with a problem and a bottomless pit of money. Assuming this doesn’t happen and our club continues to make progress I can we’ll see them both here for the long term and beyond 2027. I think the era we’ve just started is only the beginning of a long term relationship. I certainly hope so.

Re: McKenna signs new 4yr deal
Not surprising, I felt KM had the intelligence to stay at this point in his career. I believe the odds of him taking us to the premier league are high at the moment. Of course if we struggle and the luster dissolves and we’re lower table…many of us, myself included will question his abilities again. He did have a few hiccups if I recall haha, but the acquisitions that he and MA secured seemed to solve that quagmire we were in. I said before it’s a results business. If he can continue getting the team challenging for promotion, there’s no reason to call for a new manager. I do wonder though how we’ll react if we’re rubbish and fall into the relegation zone.

Re: McKenna signs new 4yr deal
For me the biggest thing in all this is Mark Ashton, I remember saying a few days after his arrival what a fantastic appointment he was and so it has proved, he is the driving force behind everything going on at the club, not just on the pitch, getting KM in the first place was a masterstroke when we all thought who the hell is KM, but now tying him down long term too is brilliant.
A new pitch, the acquisition of the land, the improvements at the training ground, our standing in the community, the signing of Championship quality players with little or no fuss, the upturn in ticket sales, sell out crowds, merchandise sales breaking all records, the list goes on and while KM is definitely responsible for the playing side of things, without Ashtons drive, vision and professionalism it doesn't happen, and to think many questioned him as an egotistical, meddling individual, the guy is a genius, Bristol City fans must be complete arseholes.

Seems they still love him at BCFC. Looking forward to the game down there next season especially if MA decides to go on the pitch before the game and give their fans a wave.Bluemike wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 6:36 amFor me the biggest thing in all this is Mark Ashton, I remember saying a few days after his arrival what a fantastic appointment he was and so it has proved, he is the driving force behind everything going on at the club, not just on the pitch, getting KM in the first place was a masterstroke when we all thought who the hell is KM, but now tying him down long term too is brilliant.

Re: McKenna signs new 4yr deal
Hands up; was guilty of believing the guy was a “coat tail hanger on” of other people in the sport and Bristol City fans maybe having a point……
….. but
….., he’s a busy man and he’s been busy doing good things for Ipswich Town FC behind the scenes. And after watching him on occasion speak on video ——>> he is a massively positive individual which i personally can always warm to more.
Well done, Mash. Quietly confident of 9th , but COME ON…… lets see 8th!

Re: McKenna signs new 4yr deal
I was very wary of him when he first joined the club, based on what I’d read in the Watford press about his time and that club and the huge amount of noise coming out of Bristol City forums, when he’d left them, and the debt they were supposedly in, etc. So quite reasonable to take the stance of No smoke with out fire, (as we are often told). And given where we’d just come from with Evans et Al, I was frankly worried that it’s easy to all signing all dancing when you’ve got significant financial backing, but what would he be like ( was he like in previous jobs), when the brown stuff hits the fan. And these were the questions I was simply asking. I was just simply being / feeling very cautious.
Now? I feel more comfortable with him now. Would he put this club at risk financially? Given our infrastructure and who is above and behind him at board and owner level, I doubt he’d get the chance, we are so comprehensively more professionally run now. As it should be! So let’s just enjoy the ride. And for the record, I feel Ashton is doing a stunning job to date, and is very good at his job. Hope that trend continues.

Mind you, you have to laugh at these complete
’s in Bristol. I think our games against them are going to have a big edge for such a ridiculous reason, they “hate MA”.

Its a pity that throughout history they have basically never done their talking on the pitch, as a club they are pretty much irrelevant and hardly anyone would miss them if they weren't there.

Re: McKenna signs new 4yr deal
Believe the reference were Bristol City. Kids won't recall but last time they were top league were 1980 or something, around the same time we had assembled arguably the greatest team in Town history. Ashton has caused some ill-feeling between sets of fans but it's (now) something of a minority.
I got no malice towards them and in fact wish them well. (They) Haven't had much to get excited about in the past 40 years although Andrew Cole did feature at some point in time. I think McKenna signing on for further time with us may have upset one or two who wanted to see us fail but the general consensus seems one of genuine well-wishing. Why allow one individual (Ashton) to sour things. He made a mess there by all account, moved over and lo and behold became part of a success story. There really isn't much else to include on the issue.
