Sorry to say, I don’t care. He was a fan favourite during the dark times of ITFC. I’m trying to forget and here you are putting him on a pedestal. As critical as you are Hallam…what’s the obsession?

A great servant to our football club at a time most of us would rather hadn't happened. Chambo was a great figurehead for a poor bunch, he never gave less than One Hundred percent every time he crossed the white line, you had to have been following the club up and down the country in those days to truly appreciate just what he was and what he did, always the one to stop and sign the kids autographs or pose for a selfie just to give youngsters at least something to remember another drab match by.

Chambers stood up for his players every time, he went toe to toe with the bully Paul Hurst and his ignorant henchman when things were happening behind the scenes, it can't have been easy in those darkest of days but he was always there at the forefront, I remember the time he played with broken ribs and was struggling to breath and yet he was the best player in a Town shirt.

Chambo wasn't the best footballer in the world, nor was he the worst by any stretch but what he was was honest, loyal, committed and genuinely proud to wear the badge so I thank him for that, others will dismiss him and that's fine, I suspect they never got the opportunity to truly see the man for what he was, opening up his home to the youngsters coming through the club and looking after them with him and his wife's hospitality.

So thank you Luke Chambers for what you did at this club, you deserved much more than you got out of your time here but one thing is certain, we would have been in a hell of a lot worse place without you !

Very well said Mike I totally agree with everything you have said, Luke Chambers is a true blue and I wish him well.

Chambo was indeed a bright spark in an otherwise dark place. He was a good leader for us and I will remember him for his leadership, back post headers, commitment and that famous Sky TV outburst - just showed the adrenhalin rush he was having post match.

To 'not care' No 9 is a bit disingenuous in my view - its your opinion which is fine but to not care about a great servant for the club is like not caring about some of the greats we have had playing for us in the past - sad if you really think that way but as Mike says, you clearly were not travelling up and down during those dark days to see what the man really tried to do in very difficult circumstances.

Thank you Luke and good luck in your next venture. I for one will welcome you back at Portman Road when you visit.

Chambers was unceremoniously booted out the door during the cookiemonster cleanout. I felt at the time that little respect was being shown to a player who had been a loyal servant for many years.

Sorry late to the party, but just spotted the thread and didn't know he'd retired. Just want to say perfectly put Mike, everyone will remember players and times in their own way and that's fine, but you've summed up my feelings perfectly.

He was a very rare character in the modern game, loyal and professional to the very end. I've often said that McCarthy and the likes of Chambers holding the team together for so long actually did more harm, because the club got weaker and weaker for a longer period without issues being highlighted, because they kept the club in the Championship.

But perhaps a better way of remembering it, is that it all led the the current situation, had Chambers not inspired the team to overperform, then the club may have gone down sooner or have been in a different situation, and the oh so important sale of the club may never have happened. So even though I feel gutted for him that his time here coincided with truly woeful ownership and management, which sadly means he will never be thanked or appreciated as he should be, he is a big part of this great club's history now, and part of the story and journey that has led us to this point, and I hope that helps to make him proud and satisfied when looking back at his 9 seasons here.
