December Points Total

Post by lucy » Sat Dec 02, 2023 11:42 am

Realistically out of the 7 Games we have in December how many points would you be happy with.

I'm going around the 12-15 range. I can see us potentially losing points against Leeds and Leicester. I just bloody hope we finally get 1 over on those Budgies down the Road.

Coventry (H) Win

Middlesbrough (A) Draw

Watford (A)...Draw or Win

Norwich (H)...Win

Leeds (A)...Lose

Leicester (H)... Draw

QPR (H)...Win

Yep I agree, around 13-15 points and that would be a good return from a very hard programme.

For what it's worth these are my guesses at results......

Coventry (H)...win

Middlesbrough (A)...Lose

Watford (A)...Draw or Win

Norwich (H)...Win

Leeds (A)...Lose

Leicester (H)...Win

QPR (H)...Win

I’ll have a prediction league genius attempt at this.

Coventry (H)...win (got be, …… surely)

(It will be. And don't call me Shirley)

Middlesbrough (A)... win

Watford (A)...Draw

Norwich (H)...Win (Get it rrrrrrright up them)

Leeds (A)...Lose

Leicester (H)...draw

QPR (H)...Win

14 point haul and promotion to the 12:30 & 5:30 saturday kick offs.

I have them down for 11 pts, I'd be happy with that and anything more is a bonus from a very tricky set of fixtures.

I expected a tough winter before the season started, so if they can get through to March and maintain a strong position in the league, then I'm happy. I back us to then hit form at the end of the season again like last term and finish strong.

Middlesbrough (A) lose

Watford (A) Win

Norwich (H)...Win

Leeds (A)...Lose

Leicester (H)... Draw

QPR (H)...Win

13 points would be enough to keep us in second I reckon

McKennas comments post Coventry game … Massimo misses a game I think after his booking today.

“We’ve got Middlesbrough next Saturday but we’ve got Watford three days later away from home, it’s an incredibly tough double-header, so at least we’ll have two fresh players come Tuesday.”

McKenna might well have left one or both of them out of one of the next two fixtures in any case and he says he’ll need to use his squad over the course of the month.

“We’re going to need some rotation,” he added. “Certainly when you look at Middlesbrough, Watford, Norwich and when you look at then Leeds, Leicester, QPR, Stoke in the space of nine days, we’re going to need to rotate”.

Problem is with our rotations, our second string players aren’t as good, ( probably unlike Leeds, Leicester squads). Eg we weren’t at the races v WBA when McKenna decided to play Taylor instead of Luongo. We really do rely on Morsy: Luongo in the middle of the park. Don’t have them and we’re a shadow of the side we were in the first half today, in my humble opinion .

So which games do we risk the rotation? I’d go with Watford and QPR if it’s possible.

Coventry (H) Win

Middlesbrough (A) Draw

Watford (A) Draw

Norwich (H)...Win

Leeds (A)...Lose

Leicester (H)... Win

QPR (H)...Win

14 points which if achieved would give us 59 points at the turn of the year which would be a massive achievement.

We're not going to win every one listed. One or two defeats will arise from the fixtures indicated, to go unbeaten against some of the caliber of teams involved just won't happen. Can envisage maybe 1 point against Boro, Norwich and Leicester while maybe losses to Leeds and Watford, all others suggest victories.

All hypothetical and you can't make real judgments on things that haven't played out but seems a good enough estimation. If the team takes 15 points from those available, you got to say we've done well. We can be slightly erratic at times, you never know quite how it's going to be although the team has the opportunity there to take points off other challengers. Some real pivotal fixtures with end of season bearing along the way for sure.

Interesting to see that nobody so far is predicting a win at Leeds.

So here goes - we'll win at Leeds for sure.

As for a points total for December, I'm going for 19 out of 21.

Not really. I admit his goal yesterday was a wonderful strike, but he needs to find consistency for me to say he's on fire. I'm absolutely crap at darts - if I throw for treble twenty i might hit it once in a blue moon and that's exactly how I assimilate Wes' strike yesterday.

Really? The darts analogy links with Burns’ goal? 🤔
If you are crap at darts then you’ll be throwing and hoping? Like me also. Really sh*t at darts.

But Burns took the ball along the 18yard line, held the ball until the right moment, then executed a perfect outside of the boot curl into the top corner that any Brazilian striker would've been proud of. He knew what he was doing.

Can only maybe think you mean that most of his other work is “throw and hope” ?

Although his goal and performance yesterday were both very good I actually thought Burns was superb against Millwall Wednesday evening.

Yes, he's definitely been on it more last 2 or 3 games, so a little harsh to dismiss his strike as random luck.

I said to Mike at the last game, I think its because the injury gave him a rest from the game. Now look at him ! I also think that's why Broadhead is struggling for form ...he's spending so much time on international duty /( travelling) with Wales...

Agreed, the players have looked jaded at times recently
The squad is strong and fit, but we know what too much rotation can do and we have a busy fixture list coming up...

OK so looking back at what I hoped we'd achieve over the Xmas Period has left Me feeling a bit disheartened. I was sure we'd beat Norwich.

I predicted 14 points which is exactly what we’ll get if we win tonight and I’ll be very happy with that. Ok, we’ve got them very differently to what I expected but that’s not important. We just need to make sure we take all three tonight from what is a potential banana skin game especially with Morsy and Hirst guaranteed to be missing.

Yes I predicted 13-15 so a win tonight would put us smack bang in the middle which would be a very good return for our difficult period.

1 point from both Norwich ad LCFC correct. Win at Middlesbrough, 3 points not 1, got that wrong

defeat to Leeds correct. Win at Watford, got that incorrect also

gave wins for Coventry and QPR, 1 right, the other not so. Imagined 15 points for the month and we got, what, 12 from it. That's not too far off of a target, guess an acceptable return. Didn't think the team would fail to win in 4 consecutive games though.

I said realistically 11 points and we ended up with 12, so I should be happy? At the start of the month I'd have taken it, but after 3 wins on the bounce in the first 3 games, I have to say, drawing to Norwich and QPR, and getting thumped by Leeds who are struggling against others is actually very poor. Silver lining solitary point against Leicester only slightly reduced concerns.
