I thought Puerto de Mogán was quite nice, better than Maspalomas.

Lanzarote was a barren wasteland when I went there, but Tenerife was lovely and diverse. Great for guaranteed winter sun and I'd like to revisit to see some whales or something.
Nice idea for a thread actually Wolfie

Been to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, much preferred the latter tbh, no siamese twins, inbreds or six fingered people.

Re: Say something nice about the Canaries
To be fair I think Norwich represent a classic example of a club not big enough for the prem and therefore when they reach it they actually end up with problems further down the line….allow me to explain.
Once any such club reaches the prem they need to increase contracts, sign players of a much higher level and spend much bigger fees as finding bargains when teams know you have money is incredibly difficult. You need to roll the dice, go too far and you quickly coke unstuck, don’t gamble enough and you’ll likely be doomed for relegation.
If you go down you need to come back up in 1-2 years before the money runs out, otherwise huge issues appear financially and you’re in trouble if fire sales, going into admin and sinking further down the league/another relegation.
If you do stay up then you need to really be spending Prem money on players and contracts - which is hard to undo if you then go down. You need to recruit very well, few clubs can manage it. You’re always one bad season away from
Years of problems!
These clubs don’t have the global reach or fan base size to grow and grow - meaning their revenue is somewhat capped. Ie you could never grow Norwich like you could a Sunderland, Leeds or Newcastle.
It happened to us and is now likely happening to Norwich - so I don’t take any joy in pointing fun at them.

Re: Say something nice about the Canaries
Look at Blackburn for an example where funding drives the success and then when that stops it goes badly wrong.
Look how much money it took to grow Man City into a really globally known club.
To get a club like Brighton as an established premier league club You need a combo of long term investment, superb management on and off the pitch, top recruitment etc, it’s very difficult to achieve

Well a very interesting post Shabber, although you did forgot the use of the brown envelopes passed around to the right folk.shabba wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 11:45 amTo be fair I think Norwich represent a classic example of a club not big enough for the prem and therefore when they reach it they actually end up with problems further down the line….allow me to explain.

Re: Say something nice about the Canaries
True story, my wee cousin Nicola......., I say wee cousin but she is 52, (and she is petite, 5'1" & slim & good looking, but we are not from Norwich so we've never messed around AND, I'm an ugly bstd anyway!)......, but she played drums in an all girl band that played Rush songs in the mid 90's. They called themselves Thrush. Only ever did Lothian Region gigs but they were quite good.

I thought the blind man in a wheelchair found the dead budgie in the movie 'Dumb & Dumber' real solace.

After many hours of carefully thinking of something nice to say the answer is still a BIG NO,mendipblue wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 12:25 pmYou say something nice about the Baggies and their song thrush?
Although I don't blame the little thrush, I much prefer the poor little Sparrow and the Dove though, especially when they fly over the poorthorns
