If Leicester, Leeds & Town all finished level at the top …

Highly unlikely but worth a look at what would happen if all three teams finished equal on points and with the same goal difference.
It's so tight at the top and just a point separates the three teams as we begin the run-in and the final six weeks of the Championship promotion race.

Six weeks ago, when Leicester City checked in their rearview mirror, Leeds and Ipswich were mere dots in the distance. Now, as the run-in begins, they’ve been overtaken by Daniel Farke’s side on goal difference and are just one point ahead of Town, albeit with a game in hand on both.
It’s all very tight at the top. It looks like it’s going to go to the wire. But what happens if it’s so tight that teams finish level on points, goal difference, and goals scored? It’s not out of the question, particularly between City and Leeds.
Right now, they’re on the same number of points, and are separated by just one on goal difference. Their goals for and against records are fairly similar too. City’s reads 74-33, with Leeds on 70-28. There are enough games over the next six weeks for those to align.
If they do match each other in all those areas, then it’s Leeds who will finish higher on account of the clubs’ head-to-head record. Leeds beat City 1-0 at the King Power Stadium and then 3-1 at Elland Road last month.
Should Southampton catch up, head-to-head record will likely be a decider there too. Only if City lose 4-1 at home to the Saints next month would there be a problem.
But a head-to-head record would not separate City and Ipswich, with both of the clubs’ fixtures ending in 1-1 draws. In that case, league positions are then decided on number of wins, and if that’s the same, number of away goals. City unfortunately lead on both as things stand.
Only then is a fair-play table factored in, with yellow and red cards weighed up and different points attributed to different offences. If teams are still level, then a play-off could be organised.

Hopefully it won’t come to that, could you imagine going into the play offs after losing an automatic place play off.

Tbh if we are going to miss out on automatic promotion I would prefer that it doesn’t go down to the final day. At least that would give the players a chance to recover psychologically and if any of them had slight injuries a chance to recover rather than be risked in the final game.

I don't think we're going to miss out on auto promotion or at least it's ours to lose it. Suppose Leeds take one of the places which I believe they will, that leaves one other and leicester appear so inconsistent right now as mentioned before, it kind of opens the way for only us and Southampton, the latter have two games in hand to close in or make up ground.

i'd have to take a view of all remaining club fixtures for all relevant teams involved to gain a clearer understanding of what to expect however an erratic team in poor form or containing self-doubt clearly stands out and Leicester appear just that right now. Maybe I'm wrong or made an error in judgment, maybe both they and Leeds will take the top two places and we'll miss out but going by today and recent scores, think that's something of a fair assessment.

I don’t think you’re far out AP. Leeds look nailed on for one of the automatic places and the other between ourselves and Leicester. Southampton haven’t ruled themselves out although if they as achieve it, it really will be against the odds given the difficulty of their fixtures which include games against Leicester Leeds and Town. That said their chances have just slipped as Middlesbrough have just dealt a devastating blow equalising at St Mary’s in the 90th min to draw level 1-1.
