Parking (not for football)

Post by shabba » Fri Nov 15, 2024 1:49 pm

Hi all,

Random but I'm taking the family to Ipswich this weekend, will need to move the car from PR over to near the Forge Kitchen on Duke St, where is good to park? Some of the reviews look terrible for car parks around there - Duke Orwell Quay for example seems to require an off roader! (I'm a bit precious about my car).

Any ideas for good parking on a sunday over in that part of town?
I usually walk but its 25mins each way and a bit much for my youngest.

Hoping someone comes along here and helps you out Shabba.

On the 25 minute EW walk for the youngster........, you could do the early 70s parenting routine of booting their arse and telling them to "MOVE!"

Ahhhh, memories. Good old mum and those walks to the launderette days!

That large car park in Duke Street is a bit of roughish ground . But your car will be alright. You can then walk along the Quay side ( in front of the Suffolk Uni, and alongside the wet dock / marina, Salthouse Hotel etc). It depends where you are going in Ipswich tbh....

Edit. Oh I've just noticed you've said Forge Kitchen. It's literally across the road from the car park. So ideal. I'd have no issues parking at that car park.

Its 25mins each way so prob a bit far for the kids as we'd need to get back to the car after etc. My oldest has done it and is fine but the younger one might struggle a bit.

I'm just worried about the dodgy surface/potholes as I've heard people said there cars ground out etc.

I hope we’re talking about the same car park. I’ve parked there two or three times and never had a problem. I drive a Golf.

I'm always slicing it into the woods.

Edit: Oh sorry, didn't read that properly. Thought you said I drive at golf.

Use Just Park and park in a nearby driveway - problem solved 👍

I know you will all be keen for an update on this important topic. Thankfully all went well, the surface was a little iffy and there is a bit bit a level change coming in and out but no bottoming out or such happened.

Another nice meal enjoyed at the forge kitchen.

Glad it went well. Is the Forge just a fish restaurant? And I’d heard it was very expensive ( isn’t everywhere these days!)

The Forge is really good, we had our first ever date/meal there. They did a lovely Beef Brisket which was superb, from memory we had like Tapas starters, all different small plates, loved it.

Ah, that’s good then. A varied menu. I was led to believe it was a fish restaurant only…. Unless it was under a previous ownership maybe?

Yeah it used to be Mortimers and then Loch Fyne, both fish restaurants

It’s a meat lovers heaven, lots of smoked meats and such. Its right up my street :)

It’s not overly cheap but imo the portions are good, the quality high etc. I’m not into ultra fine do it but I do appreciate quality ingredients that are cooked with certain methods.
