Great news I'm pleased for Tony.

Blues Legend Mowbray Set For Return to West Brom

Former Blues skipper and coach Tony Mowbray is on the verge of returning to West Brom as manager having been given the all-clear after his battle with bowel cancer.

Mowbray, 61, left his most recent job at Birmingham in May last year, having temporarily stood down in the February, to have surgery and undergo chemotherapy and was recently given the all-clear.

West Brom, who the man known as Mogga previously managed the Baggies between 2006 and 2009, leading them to the Championship title in 2007/08, have been looking for a new boss since Carlos Corberan departed for Valencia on Boxing Day.
Mowbray was with Town as a player between 1995 and 2000, scoring the Blues’ first goal in the 4-2 play-off final victory over Barnsley at Wembley in his last game of his career.

He subsequently joined George Burley’s staff as a coach and was caretaker-manager of Town following the Scot’s departure, staying at the club under Joe Royle until taking his first job as a manager, at Hibernian, in the summer of 2004.

Mowbray has also taken charge of two of the other sides he played for, Celtic and Middlesbrough, as well as Blackburn, Coventry and Sunderland before his brief stint with Birmingham, which lasted only just over a month before he was taken ill.

Fellow former Blues defender Mark Venus is again expected to be Mowbray’s assistant at the Hawthorns.

Without question pleased for Mowbray and that he's successfully overcome any and all health issues. Not sure if 100 per cent in the clear or good to go but he's battled back from a significant setback and taken place once again in something where everyone can wish it well.

With Mark Venus as assistant you got two ex-Town personnel there who should work well together and build an understanding. WBA may or may not get a promotion this year but the way you can see it, right now in a position to do something. Automatic seems beyond their capabilities even at this stage of season so play-off chance is what they need to shoot for. I'd be real thrilled for Mowbray and his team should they accomplish it.
