A professional footballer has admitted his involvement in a plot to smuggle drugs with a street value of £600,000 from Thailand into the UK.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, 34, was arrested after 60kg (9.44st) of cannabis was found in suitcases arriving at London Stansted Airport, Essex, on 2 September.
He was sacked by Scottish club Greenock Morton after being charged, having previously played for Arsenal, Aberdeen, Ipswich Town and England at youth level.
The father-of-two will be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court at a later date.

Typical of Look East to blazen the news of professional footballer accused of drug smuggling wearing a Town shirt, when hes not been a Town player for years, and has played for a Scottish club longer than he did us... Bunch of tossas

Just read about this on the BBC News app. Yep. Changed his plea to guilty.
You just never know these days when you FIRST read stuff and definitely gave him the benefit of doubt.
But, guilty as ever. Made worse by the fact he implicated others without them knowing. Jeez.
You’ll not be JET-ting anywhere soon, Jay.

Seems very lenient.
Had an employee many years ago jailed for 10 years for being a transfer guy, Newcastle to Glasgow. Stopped in Motherwell. Busted!
Disclaimer: Knew nothing about his private life. Was as shocked as everyone else at the time.
4 years seem extremely lenient indeed. Really thought he’d have got double figures. Show him as an example to the wider football community and fans.
No doubt you’ll be unhappy, JET, but you got off with it really.

It beggers belief that a professional footballer earning the kind of money that they do, would see the need to even get involved in drugs. You have to wonder if he took drugs himself. I wouldn't be surprised.
