Old Pictures of PORTMAN ROAD, & Ipswich.

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

12 Across Old Spurs striker, famous for his heading,
I recon it’s ALAN GILZEAN.
Seems a lot of Scottish Q & A in these crosswords ?

just when the I thought the crosswords had finished and the headaches had stopped, Mauswara puts another one up , do you think its payback for all the carrots he now has to buy LOL.

I think of an answer then realise all these are before 1977, Halifax was a great bit of working out, I was thinking Mansfield but didn't fit . am still on the case and the painkillers,

Yes that's right.
Well done on Halifax too, second word had to be Town or City but couldn't for the life of me think of any place ending with an X.
And it's about time I got another sack of carrots too, we've lifted the spuds and thinned out the tomato forest this week, not the season for carrots and a bit too warm for them here tbh.

Cheers mate,

this one is hard to actually understand the question, 5 Down, (4) Early England International A - O -
unless we have 4 or 7 across wrong?

I'm really not into crosswords but cant resists trying to get these, sure you do it on purpose

I chuck a question at the good wife (All White) then hrs later and completely from nowhere she will come up with an answer, really annoying,

Your answers are correct but 5 Down is pretty obscure, it took me a bit to find out who he was. I can give you a steer from Wikipedia though:

"The Reverend Andrew A - O - (20 September 1863 – 2 October 1931) was an English amateur footballer who played for Cambridge University, Old Carthusians, Corinthian and Hitchin Town, as well as making two appearances for the England national side. He subsequently became an ordained minister in the Church of England"

13, Southport summer signing from Bolton (3) G - Y

Few things noticed above; first one being a question:
Southampton v Ipswich testimonial match played at Ashton Gate?
Any history on that? Why was it played there?

Motherwell v Ipswich…….., Paul Lambert in the ‘Well line up. Wonder if he was hearing voices prior to kick off!

And that “In focus” With Eric Gates. Sounds like a proper joker.
Height : 6’ 1 and a half!

I was thinking that myself, Very strange that aye, especially the ashton-gate-eight-testimonial

After a bit of Sherlock I found this match was for Gerald Gow, although he never played for Town or Bristol City,
(29 May 1952 – 10 October 2016) was a footballer who played for Bristol City in the 1970s, making 375 appearances for them in The Football League.[1]
