Re: Summer 2025 Transfer Thread / Rumours
Newcastle United are holding showdown talks with England Under-21 forward Liam Delap, 22, as they look to convince the Ipswich Town player to join them instead of Everton, Manchester United or Chelsea. (TeamTalk)
Poor old Delap will be having to do a tour of England over the coming days/weeks as he talks to all the clubs after him.

Think if he goes there they will be looking for him to replace Jackson. I agree not sure that Chelsea would be the best move for him but tbh couldn’t care less where he ends up as long as things are sorted quickly.hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 12:57 pmhttps://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-new ... sign-delap

Re: Summer 2025 Transfer Thread / Rumours
It seems a number of fans actually want rid of him. Kind of strange being one of our most pivotal players this season. Without his contribution the team would maybe have finished last place or not got as many points as they did, meagre as they are.
In an ideal world I'd have him stay. Perhaps back in the second league isn't best suited to him or where we wants to further his career but it's all about what's best for us. There's other forward or attacking players we could offload that aren't nowhere near effective but as it looks like he'll indeed move on then at least will take the opportunity to wish him well. The player has provided moments of genuine hope during a poor season.
Guess it depends where he goes as to what chance he gets of feasibly playing enough games to make any transfer worthwhile i.e. what other team can accommodate him or provide enough starting fixtures over a season to feature. Chelsea could do that as can Tottenham, MUFC years back wouldn't entertain the idea but they've fallen way behind at present time and need all the assistance they can. It has to be more likely his destination will be top level rather than reside back in the Championship league with some other club name.

Wonder if there is any way to get the price up for Delap? Or we have to expect 30m and he just gets to choose?

Its 30m and he gets to choose, go back in the thread and I've explained it in more detail. Essentially he will likely get more wages/signing bonus rather than town getting any more money.Dubai Blue wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 10:34 amWonder if there is any way to get the price up for Delap? Only would go up if a club wont pay 30m in 1 go and want installments.

Re: Summer 2025 Transfer Thread / Rumours
What a foolish move, couldn’t have picked a worse team for his development.Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal to sign Ipswich striker Liam Delap, Sky Sports News understands.
Delap has a £30m release clause in his Ipswich contract following their relegation and has chosen Chelsea despite interest from a long list of clubs.
Chelsea will be busy this summer and are looking to strengthen their squad before flying to the United States for their opening game in the Club World Cup in Atlanta on June 16.
He fits the profile of striker Chelsea are looking for and the overall cost of the deal - including wages - is another major consideration.
Chelsea's recruitment strategy is to sign young, developing players on long, incentivised contracts.
Delap is 22, has Premier League experience and worked with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca and recruitment co-director Joe Shields at Manchester City.

Just hurry up and get it done , Im sick of hearing about it ...
He'll need all the luck in the world going to that club too. No doubt all about the money . It usually is .

Re: Summer 2025 Transfer Thread / Rumours
Why is it such a bad move?
I mean they are in Europe, only really have 1 striker they half like, so could use another etc. He'll get minutes off the bench, in cups and europe etc. I know they have 8 million loan players but those in the main squad get game time etc.

Just look at their record in recent years for buying numerous players, benching them and then offloading either on loan or out the door. It's a shocking move in my opinion.

Yeah valid point, and often I think they are actually losing money on these players.

Re: Summer 2025 Transfer Thread / Rumours
They bought Jackson not that long ago. He's on a reported £5.2m and sn 8yr deal. And looking at the other Chelsea players there: ( pa salaries)
James £13m pa
Fofana £10.4m
Nkunku £10.1m
Cucurella £9.1m
Neto £8.3m
Palmer£6.7m
To name just a few:
So, frankly I think Delap has gone there for the pay day. Chelsea are hardly tearing it up atm are they, and hes not going to become a regular starter for some time, if ever. How bloody shallow can you get...
I'd have had slightly more respect for him if he'd gone to Man Utd who are not going to be in Europe but look to be trying to rebuild and he'd have stood more chance of a starting place ....

Was just about to say the same thing. But where he goes is 100% up to the player, not Town....

Re: Summer 2025 Transfer Thread / Rumours
Looks done deal......
Chelsea agree deal to sign Liam Delap
Latest from Sky Sports News' Kaveh Solhekol:
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Liam Delap. The Blues will pay his Ipswich release clause.
Chelsea will now discuss personal terms with the player’s representatives – expected to be a formality and he will have a medical.
Champions League is not the main reason he is joining Chelsea, instead system of play, a young squad, opportunities to play, relationships with people already at Chelsea, a known quantity – same England age group as Cole Palmer.
Chelsea will sign more attacking players – likely to be wingers – they have target list with 9/10 names.

Being the very best player by a distance at Portman Road the past 12 months, he can be rewarded with the big dosh in my opinion. In this day and age where a Ribeye Steak is £7.50 from Tesco, get yer arse to Chelsea Liam for the megabucks. Very well done indeed ma son.

Yeah, maybe this is part of the Delap move? I know nothing about Guiu, but it sounds like he has good pedigree…Barcelona youth team etc. Plus at 6”2 he’ll be a physical presence. Hope this happens.BLUEBLOOD wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 4:48 pmMarc Guiu loan move .?

Has this been posted already? I don’t like the sound of this with his injury record.

I'm glad we are looking at strikers, this is definitely an area that will need substantial improvement.

Don't think we should be looking at players with suspect injury records, certainly not for anything like 8 MillionITFC2024 wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 11:11 pmHas this been posted already? I don’t like the sound of this with his injury record.

can't see this happening as the player is quoted as saying he is far from being concinced it would be a good move for him.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 9:42 pmYeah, maybe this is part of the Delap move? I don't know how reliable this is, or even if we're interested. But it came up on my feed today.

Hey, KLB, long time no hear...really good to see you posting again
. How are things in KL ?
Not sure how reliable that newsfeed is, I get it on my phone sometimes too.... I think Town will be linked with every striker breathing now Delap is all but gone. Inevitable really. But hopefully we will get the stoker situation sorted thus window.
Great to see you posting again. Keep it up ....
