Ipswich boss Joe Royle has revealed that he made three vain attempts to sign a Premiership striker on loan after losing top scorer Sam Parkin to injury.
Parkin, 24, who cost £450,000 from Swindon in the summer, will be absent for four months after undergoing an operation on his right ankle, which he fractured in Tuesday's 3-0 home defeat by Reading.
Royle said: "I spoke to three different Premiership clubs about bringing someone in on loan before Thursday's deadline, but the answer was the same each time - nothing doing.
"We got quite warm on Wednesday night and I was hopeful of getting something sorted, but it didn't happen in the end."

I've heard all that clap trap before.
I'm beginning to wonder if the clubs are refusing to lend us players or are the players not finding us an attractive club to play for anymore
