Billy Sharp

Post by Charnwood » Mon Feb 02, 2015 10:39 am

I'm surprised to read this morning that Leeds United striker Billy Sharp has revealed that the Whites were willing to allow him to join Town when we made a loan approach for him earlier in the month.

However, because the 28-year-old didn’t think he’d play regularly if he moved to Portman Road with Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick firmly established as the front two he decided against the move.

I still think he could have done well for us if he'd have taken a chance, and may well have kick started his career playing in a decent team creating chances. (Wigan game excepted)

 That Sharp's answer don't rub well with me, he aint getting a game at Leeds, only bit starts,he definitely would have walked straight into our current team selection, he's another Nugent, always will turn you down, he's a Yorkshire lad, and wont make a move for long beyond the borders, as he gets homesick, lets get players in that want to play for us, forget these type's

Sharps comments say it all for me. Not the right player for us and our close team spirit. He's had more clubs than hot dinners.

No loss. Move on. Dodged a bullet there i think.

I don't think there's much wrong with Billy Sharp other than the fact that he clearly feels uncomfortable living away from South Yorkshire, but I just wonder how much of that has to do with the loss of his newborn son in 2011.

There must be millions of people in Britain who never move away from the County they were born in for fear of being away from family and friends, and footballers and their families are no different.

I spent a 30yr career moving around Britain uprooting every time and I can understand the reasons why some choose not to.

Bit harsh. It's not that surprising that he doesn't want to move across the country where he's not guaranteed a place and for less pay. Especially since his Leeds form is improving.

Funny how these player-generated stories come out following a potential move that never happened! (A move, incidentally, that MM never admitted to at the time - but then that's not his style (good!))! Appreciate that lots of stuff goes on below our radar, but just wonder why BS thought fit to speak about it now. Letting ITFC supporters know his reason for not coming, whilst keeping the door ajar for the future?

Agree he would be a positive addition. However, where an individual has issues - personal or professional - before arrival, then probably best avoided for the wider good of the squad.

Does anyone know if McCarthy has strict rules on how near to Ipswich players gave to live?

Nowadays so many of them seem to commute, often quite long distances.

 This might jolt him into some action, I see that Leeds have just signed yet another striker on loan from Catania, Egdar Cani so that again must limit Sharps playing time even more, probably just happy bench warming
