Five Town players NOT being offered new contracts - for now!
But Mick doesn't close door on a return to Portman Road for some next season
Mick McCarthy has told the Club website that he won’t be offering contracts to five of his first-team squad but hasn’t closed the door completely on some of those players staying at Portman Road.
Paul Anderson, Stephen Hunt, Noel Hunt, Darren Ambrose and Elliott Hewitt are all at the end of their contracts at Town this summer, while Richard Chaplow and Zeki Fryers have completed their loan stays from Millwall and Crystal Palace respectively.
Speaking to Ipswich Player in an in-depth interview, the Town boss said: “I have spoken to all the players in the squad today.
According to Mick McCarthy
"Of the ones out of contract, we have released Elliott Hewitt and I’ve told Ando, Darren Ambrose, Chappers, Stephen Hunt and Noel that we won’t be offering them anything at the moment.
“I’m going away on holiday, they are going away and I’ve told them I want to see what is around. They will be doing the same as well.
“There is an element of freshening things up. We need to go again and you need fresh faces to do that so we will see what happens with those lads.
“I have not closed the door on those players. They are great lads. We might be good for them. They might be good for us but there is nothing happening with them at the moment.”
Jack Marriott has also been released, while Zeki has gone back to Palace.

Looks like we'll be getting another RB then? And thank god he's finally letting Jack Marriott go...what a disappointment he turned out to be!

Interesting that he got rid of Anderson, thought he put in a good shift in both playoff games, goal to boot.
He's never going to be the most skill-full player on the park, but he works his as* off for the team. If this was clearing the books to allow space for a silky skilled Martjin Reuser or Dos Santos that'd be one thing and Mick being Mick we are likely to just get a replacement player who does the same sort of thing. 100% effort like a Lee Martin, but much better defensively, and without the attitude which saw him get carded a bit. Don't get this one.
Sad about Hewitt. Feel he could have offered us something, when he's matured I think someone will have a good footballer there, but in Mick We Trust on that one as sees him week in week out.
The Hunts and Ambrose are journeymen, fair call.
Marriott, looked like a Jordan Rhodes during the first Woking spell, but 15 and 19 games with 4 goals in each spell, at Conference level rather than for Brentford (like Billy Clarke and Jordan Rhodes did) suggests he might not be the goods.

We need to be going for the top Two next season, no iffs or buts, these players would not be what is required to achieve that goal, bye bye to all of them.

I am surprised Anderson has not been offered something already.hallamblue wrote:But Mick doesn't close door on a return to Portman Road for some next season

Amazing seeing the apparent quality of ex-ITFC players lurking about, old Mick doesn't mess around.bluemike wrote:We need to be going for the top Two next season, no iffs or buts, these players would not be what is required to achieve that goal, bye bye to all of them.
JET dropped after scoring 12 goals for Bristol! Paul Taylor milling about. Anthony Wordsworth milling about.
Three with something to offer...maybe. But flattering to deceive.
Cameron Stewart will hopefully be one to watch - could be like a new signing when fit. Was he any good for us when he played, had a good pedigree and plenty of pace.

Not really seen enough to pass a comment on Cameron Stewart but I will say this, he wont be playing for us again.

I wouldn't be so sure Mike.bluemike wrote:Not really seen enough to pass a comment on Cameron Stewart but I will say this, he wont be playing for us again.
I remember a few weeks ago you authoritatively stating that McGoldrick would never again pull on an Ipswich shirt - and we all know what happened on Saturday

Never say never.

Fair comment as I did not see Didsy ever playing for us again, I will however stand by my thoughts that Stewart most definitely won't lol.
