Strikers

Murphy, Mcgoldrick, Sears and Pitman. 2 into 4 or 3 don't go, maybe a twist, or is 1 is leaving? Or do we have great strength in depth up front? :?

If Murphy goes it wont be too bad cos i cant see him scoring that many again...........or so its generally quoted.HOWEVER i think he may just do that especially with Ryan and the young arsenal lad bombing up the wings Murphs is nore that capable of getting close to 20 again. If any striker goes id loke it to be mcgoldrick, he is nowhere near as sharp and does not appear to be ar$ed helping anyone else score if he cant. Hes too selfish infront of goal

Murphy has been - and will be again - our main source of goals and leading attacker and while he may not be able to duplicate the success of last season I still expect him to do well and contribute. The Sears kid (after some initial skepticism) has proved to a be a fine addition and weighed in with some important strikes and should be second striker next season.

Share the sentiment that McGoldrick is maybe surplus to requirement around here now. Started off promising and while he's had some injury setback in his defense, I can't see him ever getting back to the stature we once knew.

I'd expect Sears and Muprhy alone to get around 30 goals next season. Maybe it's being too optimistic but guess it's better than expecting a failure and both names to disappoint.

That is exactly how I see it SJ, Murphy & Sears should indeed bag 30 between them and with Pitman added to the mix we are well blessed for goals. I see Didsy as nothing more than a bit part sicknote whos demeanour and body language suck now i'm afraid to say, I am sure he will play his part somewhere along the line but first choice now, not a chance.

All teams need Four strikers and that is what we have, Varney will also come into the fold mid season when Didsy is on the treatment table so it fits well. To me it is clearly saying Noel Hunt will not be returning.

I think as long as Didsy stays fit, MM will want to keep him in the framework for loyalty, if nothing else. If indeed Didsy does get back to match fitness and stays fit, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts knocking them in again. I still think Sears would be better played behind two strikers. From what little I saw of Sears, he does seem to have a vision for creating goals. Of course, he also scores goals and I'm sure he'd find a way to score even in a supporting role.

Funnily enough I tend to favour the thought of Didsy behind Murphy & Sears/Pitman. I just don't see McGoldrick being fit for long, I hope I am wrong because at his best he is the most gifted player at the club, it is his body and mindset that worry me.

Fair enough Mike, but don't you think Didsy hogs the ball a bit too much to play the supporting role?

An unfortunate run of injuries is bound to impact adversely on a professional soccer player. A fully fit, fully motivated, Didsy will give MM little option other than to play him. He possesses qualities and technical skills superior to others in our squad, and is a potential match winner/game changer. Whether he remains an ITFC player, however, remains open to debate; although an acceptable bid for Murphy is perhaps more likely to materialise. I hope we can keep hold of both, because we both need strength in depth and options to change formation, tactics etc, to avoid being one-dimensional or predictable.

He certainly did on his initial return from that knee injury . I think he was trying to prove he was PL material, by taking on the entire opposition defence. Big season for him now, to re-estabilsh himself. Personally im not holding my breath on him now, but Id happily be proved wrong.

Just been reading that Brett Pitman is a penalty & Free kick specialist, could be handy.

Just another couple of qualities any self respecting promotion chasing team should have its armoury

4 is fine, it's a 46 game season plus cups, if we get an injury to a striker for 3 months etc we won't be in trouble. If we had only 3 it's a worry and you can soon end up playing one up front. This way we can pick based on form/fitness, and keep the others hungry and fresh too.

Now Noel Hunt is added to the equation that's potentially 5 strikers we have, which is always good for cover, especially as Didzy is someone that possibly may not stay fit for any length of time.
