Don't even know what league the opposition play in. In any event, seems a fixture that shouldn't produce too many problems and expect Town to reach the next stage if McCarthy approaches it with the right determination.

Worst possible draw, a long trip in midweek to a ground most have been to before, add to that a team who will definitely be going out for a win against our second Eleven, not confident of progressing in this one I'm afraid. It couldnt have been much worse when you look at the teams we could have got. Donny played some good stuff last night.

Not an easy one. Doncaster did well to knock out Leeds last night. That made Leeds the 9th Championship side to have been knocked out by lower opposition in this round.
We will need to send a strong team for this one.

It could have been far worse, Bury, Carlisle, Hartlepool, Preston, Sunderland.... all come to mind.
If we send a half decent side we should still go through, Doncaster struggled in their opening game of the season v Bury and are only a shadow of the team they were a few seasons back.
They may have managed to overcome Leeds after a penalty shoot out in the last round but I suspect it was a much weakened Leeds United team who also played the last 45 mins with 10 men.

Preston away maybe wouldn't have been the worst draw, considering we'll be at Deepdale in the league just a couple of days earlier!Charnwood wrote:bluemike wrote:Worst possible draw, a long trip in midweek to a ground most have been to before, add to that a team who will definitely be going out for a win against our second Eleven, not confident of progressing in this one I'm afraid. Saying that, we will certainly have to be on our game to progress against a decent side...
Given that we haven't won at Preston in any of our last 10 visits I think it would have been far worse. In fact the last time we won there was in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup the day after my 29th Birthday, we won 0-3 and it was the only time I've ever been to Deepdale. It was fuckin freezing and the place was completely depressing and I certainly wouldn't have fancied the journey back to Ipswich had we lost. I'll be 65 this coming January which shows just how long it is since we did anything decent there.

Re: 2nd Round League Cup Match
Time flies when your a Town supporter - one day your 29, and in the blinking of an eye......! All those memories to look back on though - good and not so good! Key thing is, those of us of a similar vintage are still hanging in there, and enthusiasm levels remain high. (Pity about everything else!).
As for Donnie away, when last night's match finished I thought we're bound to get them next - and so we have. Scary! But, although they were fairly well organised and hard-working - with Wellans, Coppinger and Williams showing some quality - in truth they were pretty average and, if MM wants us to progress and selects accordingly, then we should progress. No point making such a long track north with little intention of wanting to win.

Just hope we can Progress as Im sure we can. Donny are no mugs but with a half decent side and a team up for it we should beat them.

Re: 2nd Round League Cup Match
You must congratulate Doncaster really........, it would've been a midweek trip to Leeds otherwise. That must save a few pennies on burst tyres and broken wing mirrors.
