It'll be a new "opposition" to read though.

I would like to think MM takes the entire squad up there from Ipswich. If anything, to avoid a 9-0.

Their manager was just on SSN. He looks like a Munchkin from the Wizard of Oz.
I'm personally hoping it is taken very seriously by Mick & Co. I know that opinion will differ on here.

The game will most likely be on the Wednesday seeing as Man United play on the Sunday.

Read a match report from a rival site. At least the opposition provided a scare and took today into extra time. The early season form continues although the next round opposition was unfortunate. They (Manchester) will have bigger objectives and may well field a weakened side but it's still a tall order. Did beat them at a similar stage in 1997 but that was at Portman Road. Too pull of a victory there now would be some achievement.

Re: Doncaster Rovers v Ipswich Town preview and matchday thread
League is more important. With a Saturday game after this Wednesday game I would continue the same strategy. But with hopefully some of those back from injury, our COC team would look stronger than last nights by some way.
Man U will also no doubt put out a weaker team than for their next Prem game. League is pretty important for them too.
Will be a great experience for those who are selected.

Surely the youngsters and fringe players that have played so far deserve their chance against Man U. I think it's the least they deserve.bluepeter wrote:Not keen on putting kids out.

My Bro-in-Law and his business partner have ITFC hospitality season tickets - so should be able to get me one.

I hope the players won't be over-zealous for the ManU tie. I fear a few injuries may be on the horizon. I hope I'm wrong.
MM's team talk for the ManU game: "Okay lads, here's what we're gonna do...I know I've been criticized for lack of tactical ability...but I think I have this one...okay...are you ready...here's what we're gonna do...PARK THE BUS!!!"

Re: Doncaster Rovers v Ipswich Town preview and matchday thread
Just got back as stayed up in Donny last night.
Started the game well and were on top in the opening stages and Pitman had a great chance after about 15 minutes when one on one with the keeper but shot horribly wide. The free kick which led to the Donny goal was debatable to say the least (the lino on that side and the ref had complete mares) but we never really cleared our lines from it and Wellens put another good ball back into the area from which they scored.
After this we seemed to lose our way, going back to the long ball game and could have gone 2 down. Pitman had another good chance just before half-time when again through on goal and he lobbed the keeper but it came back off the woodwork and McGoldrick put the rebound wide.
2nd Half we started off on the front foot and again Pitman was involved with the keeper again thwarting him. Donny then threatned again for a short period with Gerken making a good save. Shortly after this Pitman finally got on the score sheet when a bouncing ball in the box was not dealt with by the Donny defence and he took full advantage of the situation.
After this I could only see Town winning the game and really we should have sewn it up in the 90 minutes. Our fitness levels certainly seemed to come into play in extra time as the Donny players seemed to tire quickly. Once the 2nd goal went in there was no doubt then who was going to win the game.
No doubt you have all heard about the Toure incident with his shirt at the end of the 90 minutes and in all the years I have been watching the game have to say that was a first and had all the Town fans in fits of laughter.
Overall, a good workout for the youngsters in the team. McGoldrick just oozed class from about the 60 minute mark to the end of extra-time and virtually ran the game on his own. All credit to Pitman for not letting his early miss affect him and got his reward in the end. Toure definately had his best game so far and showed glimpses of what Mick might have seen in him. Was also impressed with the effort put in by Alabi and have a feeling he could become some sort of a cult hero with the Portman Road faithful if he continues this in the future.
Have to say I'm still not convinced about Coke and McDonnell had a very quiet debut but obviously to early to judge him yet. All in all a good night and trip.

I can remember several years ago, as a goodwill gesture, at the end of the last game of the season, the Crewe Alexandra players threw their shirts to the crowd. (With their attendances they probably got 2 each). The club had to put an appeal in the local paper the next day, asking for them back as they couldn't afford new ones for the following season.Shed on tour wrote:No doubt you have all heard about the Toure incident with his shirt at the end of the 90 minutes and in all the years I have been watching the game have to say that was a first and had all the Town fans in fits of laughter.

Listening on the radio, Coke appeared to give the ball away nearly every time he had it.

Yes, yet again his distribution seemed very poor last night.Andym wrote:I can remember several years ago, as a goodwill gesture, at the end of the last game of the season, the Crewe Alexandra players threw their shirts to the crowd. There was one instance in the 2nd half where he gave it away in the middle of the park and they broke quickly and we were fortunate that nothing came of it.

Re: Doncaster Rovers v Ipswich Town preview and matchday thread
Thanks for the report Shed, much appreciated. It pretty much mirrors what I was hearing last night etc, I am pleased Toure impressed as he had kinda been the forgotten man, the second half in particular he seems to have been very good. As for young McDonnell I think we all have to realise that he has gone a long long time without any real football to speak of so it is going to take him time to get fully up to speed, despite their advancing years Wellens & Chaplow are experienced, wily characters so he was up against a couple of tricky opponents. I am sure his time will come and he will be a real asset to the club.
I was so pleased for Alabi to get off to a flying start, as you say he could well assume cult hero status if he continues in the same vein, fans love a striker as we all know. I think last night kind of confirms why Jonathon Douglas has been preferred to Giles Coke despite not having played any pre season football, for me Douglas is quality while Coke boosts the quantity, when Bru & Bishop are fit Coke won't even make the bench but as a back up he is fine, unfortunately that is one Coke that seems to have lost its fizz !
