All quiet on the forum.....
It is no surprise there is no one talking about tonight,s loss against Hull City. Just after Russell Osman was asking the fans not to write us off just yet. Well, after all the hype, the fact remains we were not good enough to be in the play offs. The usual if,s and buts and may-be,s. Perhaps McCarthy now realizes we should of bought some quality into the squad. Other teams did. McCarthy was happy with his small squad and Evans seems happy with a break-even crowd and half empty stadium. Just another no thrills ordinary season which we are all pissed off about if the truth is allowed on this forum.

Its allowed and your right. MM said at the start of the season this was his best squad. Ok injuries have not helped(then again Mcgoldrick has been injured the last 2 seasons) but he has to realise playing hoof ball will get us knowhere. Why does he not try playing Football for the last 14 games, we have nowt to lose now.

Re: All quiet on the forum.....
Many fans will definitely be feeling that MM himself has given up on the play offs already, as March closes in.
All reports I've read past 4-5 weeks have been pretty poor, give or take a few moments of decent stuff. Because of this, there needs to be more movement in the loan market....., another 3 Pringles.
There is a bit of a problem there, and, for me, a win at Udders could probably do more harm. Don't get me wrong, I want the club to win every game possible, but the point being, let's see the squad being strengthened ever so slightly regardless of potentially winning at Udders........, which, incidentally, they won't. It'll be a draw!

Now Jeremy, that thread title does sound a bit of a wind-up. I certainly hope you're not a budgie as some have suggested. If you are of the yellow-feathered-inbred variety, I'd suggest you seek therapy.

Good post JR and I for one are beginning to doubt your a budgie
no budgie in their right mind would frequently come on this site when we are no threat whatsoever this season, the next or for the forseeable future.
lts of course very disappointing that we are sliding down the table. Whether you want Mick or not, want investment, want new tactics, new owner, one thing is for sure. There will be no changes any time soon.
Let's just see what can be done with the rest of the season. I'm beginning to feel sorry for Mick ,a minor victim of his own success. Wish he had been backed half as much as that cnut Keane was.

Re: All quiet on the forum.....
I don't believe for one second Mm has given up on the play offs. Of course things haven't gone our way in recent weeks what with key injuries and poor performances and yes it is going to be tough to turn it around but it is not over just yet by any means. It can change oh so quickly, I am not saying it will happen but should Sheff Wed lose at Hull Friday night and we win at Huddersfield we would be 3 pointsd behind sixth place Wednesday with a home game against Blackburn in hand. Of course it is all what ifs but that is how close we still are. Defeat Saturday however and the task starts to look huge.marko69 wrote:Many fans will definitely be feeling that MM himself has given up on the play offs already, as March closes in.

Re: All quiet on the forum.....
Whether McCarthy has given up on the play-offs or otherwise, suppose we make the top six again then what do you realistically hope to achieve.
The team isn't doing as well as last season where we finished in sixth but were well beaten over two games by Norwich. Point being, if we were to achieve it once again I really can't envisage overcoming one of the other promotion challengers such as Middlesbrough or Brighton.
To get another play-off opportunity would be a fine achievement but realistically, and the way the season has gone thus far, difficult to look beyond the two (semi-final) play-off games for last progress.

I would be looking to next season rather than focusing on a play-off spot this season. If we - by any stretch of the imagination- win the play-offs , we would be so unprepared for the PL it would be embarrassing.saint jude wrote:Whether McCarthy has given up on the play-offs or otherwise, suppose we make the top six again then what do you realistically hope to achieve.

If MM wants to win back fans enthusiasm, then try and allow his team to play football and introduce younger talent to the team. What's to lose.... we're not getting relegated!
the problem is Mick seems to know just one way to play and he's reliant on 6 or 7 core players who are all good pro's, but are only Championship journeymen at best.
Mick is here to stay for a while longer whether we like it or not. I just wish he had a new trick or two up his sleeve because he looks likes he's going through the motions and settled into his shoestring comfort zone.

I seriously doubt we can "prepare for the PL" unless the owner / Mick are prepared to some SOME money.

Even with money, Hallam, I don't think MM's style of play/tactics would get us promotion.hallamblue wrote:I seriously doubt we can "prepare for the PL" unless the owner / Mick are prepared to some SOME money.

Re: All quiet on the forum.....
This has been elaborated on before. I.e. McCarthy could have more cash than the owners of Chelsea and Real Madrid combined at his disposal but his style of play and focus (or lack of it) on individual objectives would dictate we would still struggle or make proper inroads.barmy billy wrote:Even with money, Hallam, I don't think MM's style of play/tactics would get us promotion.hallamblue wrote:I seriously doubt we can "prepare for the PL" unless the owner / Mick are prepared to some SOME money.
As it is, we possess an owner who won't spend on the team sufficiently and a manager whose tactics and philosophies are often deemed questionable. What we require is a new broom who can sweep away the dust that has collected around this club for the best part of a decade, someone with fresh ideas and initiative who can move the club forward once again and provide a fighting chance to achieve something.
With the aforementioned names considered, and stability aside, the club is essentially going nowhere.

He has got promotion with these tactics more than once in the past, a five year plan could well take five years.

So did Paul Jewell.bluemike wrote:He has got promotion with these tactics more than once in the past, a five year plan could well take five years.
Mick had more resources before.... and he was younger and hungrier.
I've never heard anywhere from the club having a five year plan ... an x year plan, whatever. Maybe I missed that.
We're getting in freebies and loans and expecting to over-achieve. No one is coming through from the under-21's also.
You're winding us all up, Mike, with this 5 year plan, right?

No one would want 5 more years of dull football, surely ...nice wind up.

Re: All quiet on the forum.....
I didnt say anyone had spoken of a five year plan, it may just merely be that is what ME and the club are looking at in giving MM & TC another contract which takes them to 5 years.
I disagree that no youngsters are coming through, Bishop, Clarke, Benyu, Dozzell to name but Four, Two of those have been injured for some time, one is out on loan to play games and the other is very young but a very highly thought of prospect.

Ha ha, a fair bit of vindication to yourself and the travelling fans. Must have been a shorter and sweeter journey back from Huddesfield.bluemike wrote:All quiet on the forum.
I think this squad is limited and can only go so far, but, fair dues, Micks got some characters in the squad who can squeeze out these results from time to time when, in reality, we should have lost this one. Credit where credit is due.

was thinking this morning that we have had the guts ripped out our team for most of the season through long term injuries and it's a testament to MM/TC and the players character that we have by and large been in or around that top section - no mean feat. I just hope the reported MM talks with Evans over the coming summer she's Mick being given more dosh because he sure as hell deserves it.
