Not unexpected, which is a shame as he seems a decent, honest bloke who did particularly well we he first went there. I suppose though it could have on the back of what his predecessor achieved.

A decent bloke and a good manager, it just hasn't happened for him this season.

Was involved three years back in the run-up to his appointment and wondering who was going to come in to replace Moyes. When it was confirmed, was initially skeptical, but then you realize there's isn't anything any fan can do once the club makes a decision.

Lost touch with the club side a year after his appointment so didn't see all that occurred thereafter but still look in every now and again on forums once participated, so not entirely in the dark as to team matters. Looking on ToffeeWeb just recent, there's a lot of opinion as to be expected and the general consensus in one of relief that Martinez will no longer be team manager after today. It may seem questionable to terminate his services with one game of the season still to come, but there is an awards night at the club today by all accounts and many fans have such a level of anger (towards the individual) such has been this season, Martinez would have needed an armed guard to be present at Goodison for the last game with Norwich City. If Kenwright can be forced out also, supporters could have the best of both worlds, but for now, this is good enough.

Was appointed in 2013 on the back of Wigan having a shock FA Cup success, but our directors somehow failed to see that the club had been relegated also. They took a chance, it may have worked to an early extent, but that it has ended in the situation it has, may be of small surprise to some.

Unsworth and Joe Royle to come in for that last said game, and while they can't undertake the next season together, it would be an interesting scenario if nothing else.

Awards night knocked on the head at last minute!

Probably not much to celebrate to be honest.

In the merry- go- round , has there been any rumours about Mick going to Newcastle.?

That club needs a strong person to sort sh*t out there. If Rafa says no... Micks a good choice. He's got rid of the bad elements and .... he's got more resources there.

Say it now, you don't want him here

One more time, Everton hired him on the back of the FA Cup win three years ago, they somehow overlooked the fact that he had relegated the same club (Wigan Athletic) at the same time. The season is based on 35 - 40 games against teams of a similar level, not a handful of random fixtures against all level of opposition.

Can't see any EPL team giving him an opportunity right now so that only leaves lower league. If Hull don't get a promotion then Steve Bruce may vacate so there's a potential opportunity and there will be other clubs to take into consideration. - But as before, would wish no appointment here.

Everton have always been pish. Big club but no where near as big as they think they are and Martinez done a decent job finishing mid table in the EPL. He'd be great at Portman Road given the chance......, but it'll never happen.

With the advent of the EPL in 1992, we were one of the "big five", (league champions 1985, 1987) but within two years were nine minutes away from being a second league team. I followed them all the time specified and more, but realized as time progressed, we had been overtaken by others. Of course we're a big team - one of the fonder members of the football league, nine league championships, five FA Cup wins, and a European honor - it's only that in recent years we have become less recognized, but for fucks sake, the prior history and achievements speak volumes.

Maybe they tried to restore some of the past glories when Martinez was appointed, but in the end went the same way as many others before him. Fair to say there were a great many that held him in high regard for his time there, but a good number that were eventually against him : and the firing couldn't have come soon enough.

Not disputing big club status, as said in my post. Just living in Liverpools shadow for feckin eons.

Think Martinez knows his stuff, as does Davie Moyes, as did Howard Kendall........, things just don't happen at relatively big club, Everton. They'd no doubt finish where they finished this season with Claudia Ranieri. As a football gambler, I'd suggest staying the fk away from Everton.
