Never heard of him, and neither has anyone else LOL.Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that French defender Chris Goteni is joining the Blues from Saint-Apollinaire, as TWTD revealed earlier this afternoon. The deal is done barring the paperwork.
“He’s joining us, just to the end of the season with an option,” McCarthy said. “We thought it was worth having a look. He came and trained with us and he trained with the first team and did all right.
“He played in a practice match the other day and was awful but I’d seen enough in the training. I don’t think he’d been training properly and he’d travelled, so he’s joining us.”
The 19-year-old joined Saint-Apollinaire from ASPTT Dijon in the summer, having previously been with Ligue 1 side Dijon FCO's youth set-up.
Saint-Apollinaire play at the fifth tier in France but McCarthy says players have previously been recruited from similar levels and gone on to great success.
“I think your man that went to Bristol City [Jonathan Kodjia] was playing fairly low level and they sold him for £14 million!”

What are his team Saint - Apollinaire, are they a 3rd tier French outfit, looks like a cheap loan as usual, Mick says he was ok in training, but playing in a friendly he was sh*t, should fit in nicely here then.

Goteni’s deal at Portman Road includes an option for an extension.
Says a lot really!

Why the f*ck doesn’t Evans just pay McCarthy off and get rid. He’s clearly not going to give an outgoing manager any money. We have a disasterous injury list and no prospect of getting these players fit for the srcond half of the season not any chance of Rvsns spending any money to bolster the squad.
What a waste of f**king time !!! Half way through the season and it’s essentially over due to the persistent short termisim, make do on the cheap approach by the owner.
Worldwide goal by Celina - but naturally he’s not our player !!

5th tier, Ash.
Might be decent......., or he might make Tommy Smith look like Puyol.

N'Golo Kante came from a lower tier French side and in the space of 2 years had won a Premier League medal and got a big money move to Chelsea.
Lets not write the lad off before a ball has been kicked, could be another Mings/Cresswell

Very true, unfortunately this is what tends to happen at Town.

Yep. Young LB @ Liverpool, Robertson (at 18) was selling scarves for Queens Park, (the Hampden based club) only five years ago. He was spotted, and now he's a millionaire. Never write people off until they've actually proved that they're Shyte. Hopefully this lad proves he can do a job.

MM & TC have a good recent track record for digging up diamonds. I'm only too happy to see the owner giving them a little funding to keep this trend going.

Unable to recognize the player or French league team. True I don't keep up with team affairs 24/7, but if this was announced recently then some quiet business was sure underway.
Only the manager knows the thinking behind scenarios such as this. Could be some standout talent hitherto yet to make an impression at the right level, but going to be skeptical and admit this kid or whoever it is, should make minimal impact on our remaining league season. No offense to anyone but people seem right in that this is something that should project small interest or indeed productivity. (You want supporters to take notice, make the Celina deal permanent first and foremost, that's where the future's at)

How far into the future are you going here? Until he's injured? When will that be?saint jude wrote:......make the Celina deal permanent first and foremost, that's where the future's at.
This "whoever he is" kid is Chris Goteni and he is the product of what Mick McCarthy can afford to bring in. He realises the "future" you speak of is riddled with potential injuries. If it's known quality yourself and the other fans want, Mevans will need to get his wallet out.

Re: Town sign Goteni
Saint Jude, what on earth makes you think that Celina would want to sign a deal with us? He has clearly got his sights set on playing for Man City in the Prem. You might say that he is a bit over ambitious but he's young and no harm in aiming high. No reason for him to sign for us unless Man City indicate at some point that he is not required any more. Even then I suspect he would have interest from others in the Prem & elsewhere.

Celina was never likely to be someone to sign, he was always coming here as a young raw talent that we could give a platform to. Hes by no means the finished article, if he was he wouldn't be playing for Ipswich. Hes not always great for us either, he has been very quiet in some games, but worth playing as he has the talent to run at people and creates.
Regarding the signing of this guy from France, totally underwhelming, perhaps just a punt at someone who could offer some cover. MM does occasionally unearth some decent players from obscure places, im not expecting that of this guy but equally wont write him off until ive seen him myself. I did like how MM signed him after having an "awful" game but if hes seen something in training then why not, he will only be on peanuts anyway.
