Regardless of the fact that Scotland haven’t made the finals for 20 years, I usually still get a bit excited about the World Cup.
BUT, it’s two days away and couldn’t really give a sh*t. And all of my buddies have the same feeling. Can’t figure out if it’s the tournament itself that’s at fault or we are all just getting older and grumpier and want to moan.
Having said that......, looking forward to Portugal v Spain on Friday.
I don't fault you for it, got no real interest in it this time around. Last World Cup (on a personal aside) that caused any interest was South Africa '10 and if memory serves the showpiece event was two sides attempting to kick the sh*t out of each other before one goal made the difference amid a contest of otherwise forgettable tepid play. A carbon print of 1990 if you will.
As someone put it, Russian's being given the vote to begin with was a regrettable decision and how many respective fans countries can you feasibly envisage making the trip over. No US team involvement (not that we were going to make any damn impact) or Netherlands or Italy with it.
Get it out the way, a few weeks rest and back to domestics. Prefer it in those odds years when the summer is free of all associated "football" and no competition is prevalent. Once you could get involved in these things i.e. there was element of a multitude of feelings and sensation : such times have passed, say again just get the f**king thing over and done with.
Guess for people who don't like the game or World Cups as a whole, the four weeks to come or however long, could seem like a lifetime. It'll pass,
time will always prove a determining factor.
