Don’t think the comparisons after 8 games tell the whole picture when we have 46 games in a season.Charnwood wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 10:06 pmVR, I guess we’re in the same boat in terms of following from afar and both limited to watching Town on Sky TV, although I do try to get to a handful of away games each year closer to my home in the East Midlands. Our only difference is I would still refer to “our gates” whereas you used the term “your gates”.valleyroad wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:19 pmLive in Scotland now and was season ticket holder from 89-93. Followed Ipswich since then and have huge regard for the club and how it conducts itself. Occasionally visit Ipswich and always take in a match at Portman Road. Always watch ITFC matches when live on SKY. So yes, "one of you" but just from afar.
Doesn't mean my opinion is wrong ?.
Ipswich will pay a heavy price for losing MM.
Your years as a season ticket holder are far more recent than mine which was 1975- 85 when I lived in Chelmsford & Colchester, since then I have been too far away to make home games viable although there was a time when I tried it regular from Leeds, Nottingham & Leicester, but each time it eventually wore me down.
Similar to you, although I never welcomed Mick McCarthy to Portman Road I eventually warmed to the bloke and appreciated both his effectiveness as a manager and his personality, although as time went on I despised the bloke and in particular his disrespect for the fans. In a way it was a shame for both parties that his relationship with the fans turned sours as he was very much a specialist Championship Manager, and had only ME invested in his talents I feel sure Town would now be in the Premier League, however that wasn’t to be after Evans had his fingers burnt by both Roy Keane and Paul Jewell.
When Town fans first started to turn against McCarthy I regularly warned “to be careful what you wished for” as there are few managers around as good as him at this level, however he did little himself to repair his relationship with the fans who in the end were happy to see the back of him.
Have we inproved since he left?.... probably not..... but when you read the comments from the guys who watch regularly, eg, Bluemike, Charlton & Tangfastic etc . they all seem perfectly happy.
Personally I’d rather be sitting 5th place in the table with a game in hand two points off top of the table as we were this time last season when the likes of Waghorn and Garner were more than happy to be playing for us and scoring goals for fun.
P GD Pts
1 Leeds 8 11 17
2 Wolves 8 5 17
3 Cardiff 8 5 17
4 Preston 8 6 15
5 Ipswich 7 4 15
Year on year Progress ?...... not from where I’m sitting.
Actually, a year ago we started to slide down the table after 7 or 8 games and the discontent re-emerged.
What are the issues here? Is it that we should never got rid of Mick McCarthy? Or that it was the right decision, but we picked the wrong manager?
Over Mick... he had to go. His time was up. Some of the fans were downright abusive and out of order, but Mick seemed to want to take them on and inflame the situation, meaning they was a growing number of disillusioned fans. He could have dealt with it far better IMO ( and not the isolated Norwich Foxtrot Oscar saga which never bothered me).
There’s no point in keeping an unhappy marriage going when it will just become more unhappier.
Over the PH appointment.... is 8 games enough to be able to confirm its a disastrous and wrong appointment? The last two games worry me due to the team selection and how we played. No pointing in hiding that. PH doesn’t become a magician overnight, nor does he become a bad manager overnight. I hope he holds his nerve, overlooks the last eight games and settles on a formation and a team of players and build from there.
I don’t think anyone is happy with this situation, but what’s the point of calling for the man’s head after 8 games? I definately think PH has made mistakes, but I’m just hoping he learns from them... and quickly. He’s had a decent, upward managerial career up to now over a number of clubs and number of years so let’s hope he starts getting some consistency in the team and putting points on the board.
