I’ve no idea why Taylor struck the ball so weakly last night, as we all know he has a powerful shot on him and all the previous penalty’s Cajuste’s aside, we’re powerfully struck and had so much pace that a keeping going the right way still had little chance of stopping. I still think Forest woukd have won even had he scored as after Clarke and Townsend I think we’d have run out of pen takers. The Odious Mr Rossi wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 9:34 amOh well, that's over for another year.
First half was dire - if we play like that we will definitely go down and deservedly so.
Rest of the game, at least we tried - can't fault the players for effort. What I can fault them for is their extremely poor passing - how many times during the game did our passes go behing the man, even when passing sideways and backwards? No wonder we are so slow in going forward, the players are constantly having to go backwards to get the ball. Obviously this is not being worked on enough in training, and it's basic skills.
9 very good penalties, and one absolutely crap one - I could have farted the ball harder than Taylor struck it.

He was trying to place it wasn't he. He should have just blasted it....
Overall, I was really surprised and pleased at quality of our penalties last night.

We’re certainly better at penalties than we used to be Liz, I guess what we read about McKenna part of that will be down to pre match preparation. My only surprise was that Jack Clarke didn’t take one as he was a regular penalty taker at Sunderland and according to my mate he never missed scoring 5 from 5 taken in the Championship last season.

Yep must admit I was surprised that Clarke didn’t take one but perhaps he just didn’t fancy it. As for Taylor, I noticed he was being treated for cramp before the shoot out which seemed surprising when he was chosen to be one of the takers.Charnwood wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 2:52 pmWe’re certainly better at penalties than we used to be Liz, I guess what we read about McKenna part of that will be down to pre match preparation. You’re right Tony, I forgot about Taylor being treated for cramp. As far as I’m aware he’d only taken 2 previous penalties before joining Town and scored both of them, one in season 2018/19 and the other in 2919/20. However that’s two he’s missed for us now the last being at Wimbledon when his miss put us out of the Cárabo Cup. Maybe he was thinking of that when he ran up to strike the ball this time.Shed on tour wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 3:03 pmYep must admit I was surprised that Clarke didn’t take one but perhaps he just didn’t fancy it. We really should be getting so much more out of Jack Clarke but it won’t happen unless he gets more game time.

I love my football so much I feast on it all weekend apart from when I’m playing golf. Even when I was in the UK where Pay tv is much more expensive I still had Sky Sports and what was then BT Sports. For me it was worth every penny of the subscription.

I’m pretty certain I’ve not ever watched an Aussie Football League game but I’m not sure I could find time to fit it in. After a month away in Asia and very little time for footie and when I had it was cricket, cricket and more cricket in India, so tonight I’m watching Real v Atlético in the Champions League. It’s certainly entertaining as you would expect for a Madrid Derby with so much at stake let alone bragging rights.marko69 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 8:12 pm

Do they dive around holding their faces at the slightest touch like the diving, cheating fairies do in the PL ?

Not seen too much evidence of it tonight Liz, although to be honest I’ve had it on in the background whilst I’ve been doing other stuff catching up on household admin etc.hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:56 pmDo they dive around holding their faces at the slightest touch like the diving, cheating fairies do in the PL ?

They'll be those born after this club name last appeared in an FA Cup Round Six game who by now would be grandparents. That's a frightening thought but accepted before now will never again live to witness the team win the trophy for a second time.
We did well to get where we did this year. A whole number of previous managers and teams wouldn't have gave a f*ck to progress beyond Round 3 but to make the trip there and hold them to a tied game over 120 minutes, you got to say its commendable.
Taylor missed, it were a lame effort and proved expensive but the player would have been hurt enough by it than to offer further castigation. McKenna put out a strong team and Palmer with it, many guess were surprised or caught out by the team selection. The most important thing whether we failed or succeeded is that at least we made the attempt and gave it a go.
Say again this represented one of the very best chances in many a long year to have won it again this season. That we can't or no longer, to hell with it. Its disappointing and regrettable but if we survive a relegation, it will have more than made up for it.
