Re: Leeds United v Ipswich Town preview and matchday thread
Ok, let me start by saying this humble pie im eating never tasted sooo sweet!!. Very solid performance from every town player on the pitch. Defence looked like they could take anything that was thrown at them tonight, midfield all worked their socks off going forward and tracking back, forwards looked dangerous every time they got the ball. Knudson looked a different player tonight, very strong and closed down very well. Fraser was excellent as usual, only subbed late on due to a knock. Niles came off only due to the effort he put in and cole skuse also came off after a challenge that left him down. Got to say mm got it spot on tonight, leeds didnt look like they had any idea how to brake us down. Nervy last ten mins after forced subs, parr booked on his first challenge but held on at the end. Leeds only turned on after our forced substitutions and targeted the left hand side with no real impact.

I dont think the rival site gives town justice. Granted first half was even but second half town bossed it. Id like to see the actual match stats but from my view we had them in our pocket second half.saint jude wrote:Read the match report from a rival site and seems we were value enough for the victory. Possession was only just shaded by the opposition, chances created were about equal, but in the end it was a fair result ? They had a late penalty claim turned away and we could have added further goals also but bottom line, it was the result needed after that embarrassment in the previous fixture.
Read we were in fifth place after this which sounds like a bit of a drop after the early promise, but it's actually only one point away from second placed Boro as it stands. (Brighton are creating some room for themselves at the top of the league)
The play-off zone is already at this early stage looking congested with a number of teams on similar points, and one of those is Birmingham City who we face in the next fixture. (Unfortunately it's one of those damn live TV broadcasts)

Exactly what I expected from our Mick after Friday's embarrassment at Reading, a tight defensive performance and a goal From a set piece. Come on Mick, stick to what you're good at.

Re: Leeds United v Ipswich Town preview and matchday thread
What different mood today and huge relief. That kind of performance was absolutely perfect to appease fans after Reading. I can honestly say now that Friday was a simple car crash. Unfortunately some players had had a 'day off' against Reading and we paid a hefty price for that. The best way was to forget about that and response tonight. And they have done so.
It was a different story today in terms of teamwork and players' commitment. Our defence who had let us down on Friday, I can't say a bad word about them. Knudsen in particular had a lot to do today, non-stop running, had to be vigilant all the time. One moment of him being slower than opponent though could have ended up very badly but for Byram's decision to dive whilst going one on one.
Fraser and Didsy were our biggest threat and most of our attempts would commence from them. I'll always keep saying that the quality of those two + Maitland-Niles is what we badly missed last season. Just a bit of skill and pace.
Much maligned Gerken hasn't really had much to do. In the first half he had to deal with lame Antenucci's effort. Not much more in the 2nd half but the game was far easier for him than it was on Friday. The opposition in Leeds was a weaker one and our centre backs who themselves have had a faultless game made his evening not so stressful.
Yes really faultless evening from Berra and Smith. Can't say a bad word about Chambers either. Much better from him than against Brighton and Reading.
Maitland-Niles has offered a bigger threat today and Sears on Friday but this is no surprise as latter ain't a winger.
Skuse - far better tonight and far better protection for back four.
Douglas - a bit better too but very, very shy and too scared to cross the half line.
Second half until 75 minute was particularly pleasing as we were all over them for the majority of that period. Just a shame we were unable to score a second that would have put the game to bed. In terms of possession and operating the ball much better than Leeds.
Things got a bit hectic in the last 15 minutes as we gradually started sitting back as Parr replaced Fraser.
A few nervy moments. A few whipping crosses but thankfully well dealt with by Berra and Smith in particular.
Sam Byram seemed to have a perfect opportunity when going one on one but decided to dive in the box when feeling approached by Knudsen. That was without a doubt the scariest moment for us. Apart from that Leeds were very poor especially for the majority of second half and their fans did show their displeasure by booing.
What also needs to be underlined that our ex-loanee Chris Wood was a total cack. Useless harmless donkey.
Typical Micks team performance. Plenty of endeavour and teamwork. Deserved win without shadow of doubt. The only slight disappointment is that we didn't score a second one to spare our nerves in the final minutes.
10 years since Sam Parkin's brace at Elland Road. We had to wait such long to collect 3 points again at Elland Road.
Massive relief tonight. 3 points and rare clean sheet is a perfect cure for us after what we had had to deal with on Friday.

I thought I had dreamt last nights win.
3 points out of 3 games (1 hard at home and 2 hard aways).
Hey we can do this.

Well, I never saw that coming. I thought a draw at the very best.
A welcome and well deserved win by all accounts. Let's keep it going.

Well done lads! We needed to put the Reading debacle behind us. Here's hoping that was just a blip. Thanks for the report Mach.

Re: Leeds United v Ipswich Town preview and matchday thread
So first of all let me say (as the chief moaner in most peoples eyes), that I'm really pleased about the result last night and especially the clean sheet.
Being stuck in Southampton all week, I can't get to any of the midweek games home or away (except Friday of course as Reading is on the way back), so I can judge only on what I heard on the radio - and it seems that the defence generally played tightly and well, and Knudsen (of whom I was particularly critical after Friday) seemed to do particularly well.
But I'm not getting too carried away by the result. It sounded as though Leeds did not offer very much going forward. And we played the same system as on Friday, and particularly the same defence. So how can they be so bad on Friday and then much better last night? It's more than possible for a particular player to have an off-day, in which case he should be substituted. But I do not accept various quotes I have heard that the whole defence had an off-night on Friday, that is just not possible when we are talking about a group of professionals.
Let's hope that whatever was said between Friday night and last night, and whatever approach was taken, is repeated from now on.

Good to see Gerken wasn't a gherkin last night. It was their goalkeepers turn. There you go Barmy I wasn't as daft as you thought. Unfortunately it's another horrible Friday night game coming up and we don't seem to like Fridays
