Looks like we've got ourselves a good un!
Leicester Supporters’ Thoughts on Tom Lawrence…. 22:24 - Aug 30 with 879 views HarryfromBath
I have had a look at Foxes’ message-boards to gauge their reaction to today’s news that their attacking midfielder had moved to Portman Road on a season long loan. I also had a look further back into their archived posts to get their wider assessment of him as a player...
“Good luck to him. Ipswich seem like a good club. He’s still only 22 and can force his way into Ranieri's plans but probably not this season. There’s no point him rotting away in the reserves”, “Ipswich are a decent side for him. There won't be real pressure on him as Ipswich aren't one of the dominant forces in that league but he will be expected to show what he's about as a Wales international.”
“I’m sure Mick will treat him well and make him feel welcomed.” The consensus is that Lawrence will be well looked after at Portman Road and that regular first-team football will benefit him, much as it did when he was on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season.
“We'll never see him again.” Some Foxes feel that he may never be good enough for their starting XI. “If we finish top six to eight, I can't imagine a player who had a good season in the Championship will possibly replace players like Mahrez or Gray”, “Just sell him. He will never be good enough here.”
“If he was going to make it here he would have by now”, “If he's not pushing the first team at 22, not even getting on the bench, then I highly doubt he will ever feature here. We should sell him for the benefit of his career”, “We should sell him. He’s never going to be good enough for the first team.”
“I can't see him getting near our first team so give him an initial loan and then if it works out sell him. It would be best for both parties.” Most Foxes don’t see his long-term future remaining at the King Power Stadium, but a minority definitely want to keep their options open.
“If he has a good season at Ipswich you never know”, “He had a very good loan spell at Blackburn. if he has an excellent spell at Ipswich then it will give Ranieri something to think about. We have no idea where we will be this time next season. We may have a very good player looking to kick on his career with one year left on his contract.”

Looking at Foxes’ assessments of Lawrence last season, there was plenty of praise for his ability but again the issue of regularly playing was a recurring theme. A few Foxes said that he was prepared to move to find first XI football. “We need to play him though if we want to keep him, didn't he say he left Manchester United because he wanted first team football?”
He is seen as an industrious player who commits opponents. “Lawrence isn't a winger, he's more of a number 10”, “From what I have seen of him he seems to be well suited to our style of play, he’s very direct”, “He has been very good, pushing forward when on the ball, with good dribbling and linking play. He doesn't mind defending too.”
“Imagine a number 10 Vardy and that’s Tom Lawrence”, “He certainly come up with some cracking assists on the Football League highlights for Blackburn. He used to go at defences with a vengeance and got it wrong. He still does the same this season, but appears to have got it right.”
“I've seen Lawrence in the flesh this season, he's a decent No.10”, “He has looked handy whenever I've seen him. I remember he replaced Cambiasso in the Newcastle FA Cup game and put a decent shift in playing central midfield”, “He’s direct, runs at defences and has got a lot of skill.”
“I genuinely rate Lawrence above Jack Grealish at the moment. He has a better attitude, a superior understanding of the game and a much better awareness. You can see he came through Fergie's Manchester United academy”, “He has a lot of talent and can run with the ball at defenders.”
“The Championship is his level for now.” The only reservations have been around his lack of top-flight experience and proven quality to play consistently at that level. “There's definitely a player in there, we're just yet to see it in his very limited game time with us.”
“Tom was doing quite well last season until we halted his development and kept him benched for some reason. I always thought he looked alright when he came in for someone of little experience and during our worst time in the Premier League last year [the 2014/15 season].”
His finishing has been mentioned. “Lawrence is certainly not the striker we need - two goals in 20-odd matches for Blackburn hardly suggest a natural striker”, “He has looked well below standard when I have seen him. I won’t write him off but wouldn't be surprised if he has found his level playing in the Championship.”
Here’s one Blackburn perspective to conclude: “My house mate is a huge Rovers fan. He said Tom has been one of the few positives of what has been a season to forget, with some great finishes and been key to a few of their goals. However, he did miss a sitter in their game against Burnley who then scored a winner five minutes later. It hasn't been forgotten by a few of the Rovers’ support.”

Under MM/TC's guidance, great potential to do well for us. Hopefully provides a quality/depth upgrade, and gives MM much needed options.
