Re: Today's games
I get the impression McKenna is looking at we might have amongst current players, defensively who have championship experience : which isn’t much.
Central Defence is the last area of this squad that needs an overhaul - if we are looking to move forward and up. If what we currently have shows during the season they can cut it I’ll be a happy bunny . But I have reservations tbh.

Re: Today's games
Starting team for the second game.
TOWN: Walton; Clarke, Ball, Burgess, Leigh; Morsy, Taylor; Burns, Chaplin, Edwards; Ladapo.
I notice Ball is appearing as a CB a fair bit! What does that tell us? KM wants to look at his defensive options, and values Ball as a squad member, but perhaps not seeing room for him in a congested Midfield?
To me it suggests a new CB will be coming in and if so Ball might not make the 25 player cut?
How do you all see it?

We have a lack of options is how I see it and it will get addressed before the window shuts.AzzurroMark wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 2:37 pmStarting team for the second game.

Re: Today's games
Mainly because we are playing Two sides, we have 5 players that can actually play CB before we even sign anyone else and that doesn't include Ball who is never gonna play CB once season starts.shabba wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 4:12 pmWe have a lack of options is how I see it and it will get addressed before the window shuts.AzzurroMark wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 2:37 pmStarting team for the second game.

Re: Today's games
Flyer Alarm Admira ? Seriously, what the f*ck..
I don't know, maybe they're a really good side in Austria or something but kind of disappointed to read we only took a draw from it. Guess some were expecting more.
The new kid we brought in for goal had a spell second period but maybe should have been introduced at an earlier stage but still good to see. A number of recognized names and not so familiars took part, it's all part of the training process and readiness for a new season although one more time, exhibition game or not kind of disappointed we didn't record victory for this one. The name of opposition (who hitherto never heard of) in a way suggests we should have taken it.

Re: Today's games
Was quite an enjoyable game in fact at Flyeralarm. Probably we should be a little unhappy not to have put away one of a number of chances towards the end. Some points worth mentioning for me:
i. Great run out for the team. Most of the first teamers played for pretty much the whole game in 35 degree temperatures.
ii. Opposition looked quite sharp up front and its worth bearing in mind that thats their last pre-season game now before they start in their local cup competition. So a bit further ahead than us.
iii. Burns injury looked a bit worrying, not sure if it was ankle or calf but he didn't look happy.
iv. Defence looked a little bit wobbly with regulars out IMO, especially against neat passing on the ground. They were sleeping for the second goal which was a straight forward near post header from a corner.
v. Ladapo, Taylor, Morsy, Chaplin looking really good already Edwards & Leigh also did well and looked sharp. Nobody looked off the pace which is great. Slicker with a smart save towards the end.
vi. Must have been around 200 fans there and the Team and Mgmt came over for a good while to give thanks which was appreciated.
vii. No idea what the game timings were. 1st half ended after about 40 minutes but they ended up playing around 90.
viii. By the end I think there were 4 or 5 younger players on the pitch. I'm not sure I could tell you which is which but the two playing on the right side looked lively for sure.
Off for a beer and a schnitzel now!

Great stuff, thanks for that, sounds like Burns injury is not too serious and taken off as a precaution

Historically speaking, Flyeralarm Admira are one of the biggest clubs in Austria. Based 14 kilometres outside of Vienna, they boast nine top-flight titles and six domestic cup wins, although their last taste of silverware came in 1989 when they won the now-abolished Austrian Supercup.
Since then, they have bounced between the Austrian Bundesliga and the 2. Liga, having suffered relegation back to the second tier in 2021/22. They finished 10th last season, just four points above the drop zone.
The club has changed names several times, initially starting off as SK Admira Vienna before merging with SC Wacker Vienna in 1971 as a result of financial scandals in the 1960s, turning them into FC Admira / Wacker Vienna.
Further financial difficulties saw them merge with VfB Modling in 1997 to become Admira Wacker Modling, but future owners failed to improve the situation, with Richard Trenkwalder taking over in 2008 and renaming them as FC Trenkwalder Admira.
The most recent change came in 2017 as a result of German online printing company Flyeralarm acquiring the naming rights for the club, meaning that they will be known as Flyeralarm Admira until 2027 at the earliest.

Re: Today's games
Eadt
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna says Wes Burns and Janoi Donacien were both subbed off with 'little niggles' in today's friendly matches on Austrian soil.
Donacien came off in the 50th minute of this morning's 2-1 training ground win against Spartak Trnava, while Burns limped off, his right calf appearing to be the issue, in the 17th minute of this afternoon's 2-2 draw against Flyeralarm Admira.
"There were a couple of little niggles today, JD and Wes, but I think we got them off nice and early," said McKenna.
"We're at the stage of the season where there's no point taking any risk. As soon as anybody feels anything you generally try and get them off the pitch.
"When you're three weeks in and you've worked hard there are generally little bits and bobs, but in general I think we're in good condition."
Explaining the absence of George Edmundson from today's games, the Blues boss added: "George still has a little aggrevation in his ankle, which we're not overly worried about, but he popped back halfway through the week to get some treatment in London and should hopefully join back with the group next week."

Re: Today's games
Thanks for that report DB
Much appreciated. Damn good training match’s in that heat etc.
Whilst fully appreciating it’s still 3/52 off the start of the season for us and it’s a gradual build up, we don’t want games too easy
(you learn more from tougher opponents in my view).
It’s going to be interesting to see how we fair against PNE and Luton, but suspect the format of these friendlies will be very broken up and “ teams” totally mixed up. …. Don’t want to give too much away go we!

Re: Today's games
Yeah Hallam agreed. I think KM has said as much today. Maybe by the Bundesliga games we will be closer to playing our 1st Team, although maybe by then we will have new players settling in too.
Was great meeting a few other fans today and a great afternoon out at a friendly little stadium.
Liking the new shirts too by the way. Have to get me the green training shirt...
