Is it against the law for staff to place a bet then? I know players can’t but wasn’t aware it stretched to all staff.

Tbh I think there's more than a whiff of double
Standards within the game re betting.
When is the profession going to kick Betting Companies into touch then and ban them from having any advertising rights in the game?

Fully agree!! These companies make a fortune - because pretty much every customer loses more than they win.hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 5:14 pmTbh I think there's more than a whiff of double

Let people do it but ban sponsorship and IMO means test people via credit ratings etc to ensure people can actually afford it!

100% in your camp on this one Liz. The numbers of young uns knocking up huge gambling debts I’m sure is hushed up as is the number who carry out criminal activities to try to repay debt. In my banking days I know of at least two cashiers who went to prison for fraud from customer accounts to hide gambling debt and these were just cases I was involved with, I’m sure there were many more. I suspect some suicide cases can also be tracked back to gambling debt.hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 5:14 pmTbh I think there's more than a whiff of double

I think Betting Companies should be banned from shirt sponsorship and all in play advertising during televised games banned.
As for James Pullen, I can’t believe he was so stupid especially betting on Town where he could be deemed to having inside knowledge ? … how useful this would have been is debatable when he’s not actually involved in the game. Anyway, as they say, rules are rules and he would have been aware of them.

I think there’s a positive correlation too, to gambling and drinking. I’m think back to the days of Paul Merson, Tony ? ( their CB), Gaza? Paul McGrath….Chopra…. The list goes on.

Tony Adams and there’s loads more Liz. The problem is the betting companies make it look glamorous and easy to get rich.hallamblue wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 12:22 pmI think there’s a positive correlation too, to gambling and drinking.
