FA Youth Cup 5th Round - Ipswich Town v Liverpool

Post by Charnwood » Fri Feb 03, 2023 7:37 pm

I see the Young Guns are up against Liverpool at Portman Road tonight ko in the next half hour. I used to love following our youngsters in this comp back in the day. Is anyone on here going to the game tonight ? …, I’ve no idea what sort of following they get these days ?
A bonus for me I’ve found the game live on TV so in for a real bonus. 👍
A win and the QF’s beckon and I’ve no idea what to expect.

Town 2-0 up at half time, and they thoroughly deserve it. They are playing some wonderful stuff.

Just hope we can defend a 2 goal lead better than our first team boys. TBH 2-0 doesn’t do us just we’re all over them and should have scored many more. We went for them from the outset and could have taken the lead on 17 seconds. Surprising we’ve kept a clean sheet as our keeper is all over the place and having a shocker. I certainly don’t see him ever knocking on the door of the first team and could even get subbed off.

Ipswich keeper has been very good in the 2nd half including a penalty save 👏

Liverpool having a much better second half and so is our keeper. They just missed a huge chance to get back in the game with a penalty kick which was poorly taken straight at the keeper. They’ve also just had a goal disallowed for offside with 10 mins remaining.

Liverpool have late goals in them so we need to hold it tight or even better score a third.

Well done young Town you fought to the end and deserved your 2-0 victory from the 1st half performance alone. And its always nice to beat the Liverpool 💥💙

The way young Town played their football mirrored how the first team play. Playing out from the back and pressing the opposition high. It was a joy to watch. All the lads looked very comfortable on the ball with a strong work ethic. If a few make it to the first team, it will save the club a few quid in the long run. 👍

Playing a single brand of football throughout the club should also make it easy for o very good player to step up a level as long as he can step up to the faster pace without increasing error levels.

These kids are arguably our future and while rather indifferent to the Youth Cup / junior endeavors aspect of the club name I wish them well and that's a big name opponent to put out although not all up on how strong the opposition kids squad actually are. You can see a kind of real promising end to season here, potential promotion for the seniors / first team, and feasible 6th Round F.A. Cup of their own and the juniors hitting towards the same objective.

The women may also be making progress in their own league and Cup involvements so all said, the club name seems to be back on a safe route once again and there is clearly areas and opportunity for reward and accomplishment (in the time) ahead.
