It's not an obsession it's natural curiosity of what our rivals are doing, fairing etc. You've lived in Norwich, so you'll be aware therefore of thd hatred they have for all things Ipswich! Have you lived in Ipswich? If not, then yoj have no idea of the ridiculous biased coverage, reporting, under-reporting by the so called regional media based in norwich.

We've had decades of it. It was only when I lived in sheffield and saw how the regional press deals with the numerous clubs in South Yorkshire that I realised just how biased and unfit for purpose the so called, BBC East Anglia and About Anglia really are!

If any post concerning ncfc upsets you so much, please free NOT to comment!
Liz I spent the first 23 years of my life in Ipswich and missed only a handful of home games from the age of 8 or 9. From the age of 15/16 I was happy to exchange blows with rival fans in the North Stand long before the days of away fan segregation. Given the hooliganism that existed in football grounds in the late 60’s and early 70’s including Ipswich I probably know far more about rivalries than you do especially when it comes to Norwich and Ipswich games where it often became quite violent and I usually wasn’t far away from where it was happening, at least not until I grew up and moved on.
After 5yrs living away including a year in Norwich and 4 in Chelmsford where I was living when I got my first season ticket in 75/76. When I was 29 I moved to Colchester and lived there for another 11 years. My family lived all their lives in Ipswich and most are still there or close by in the county.
So I guess Liz 40 yrs of my life was dedicated to Ipswich, that’s all my education years which were all spent in schools and college 1 mile or less from the football ground. In fact my primary school St Matthew’s was and still is in Portman itself and every day of my school days I went past the football ground. I also lived the first 23yrs of my life within 1 mile of the ground and at different times had Andy Nelson and Frank Brogan as a neighbour, Brian Talbot as a school friend and Mick Hill and Johnny Miller as good personal friends. In my early 30’s I had very close personal contacts at the football club including Bobby Robson himself, Charlie Woods and Tony Mowbray. Hopefully all these links are close enough to entitle me to having an opinion because Ipswich Town Football Club has always been a big part of my life.
I may have lived in Norwich twice Liz. but on neither occasion did I come across the hatred of Ipswich you refer to. I’m sure it will have existed then and still does, but for me it depends who you mix with as to how prevalent this hatred might be. I think intellect comes into it too, I’m pretty sure the dumber they are the more likely the level of hatred, and I’m guessing the same applies in both directions in most likely similar numbers.
I can’t speak for what you say about Regionsl Newspapers, as I don’t read them. I used to like the Evening Star but I’ve never been a fan of the EADT. Maybe you should take your own advice, if you don’t like it don’t read it.
Finally on your advice not to comment, I thought discussion forums were all about exactly that, having a discussion. I didn’t know you could only comment if you agreed with the previous post, how boring would that be. Unlike some posters who dip in and out of Tractorboys.Com depending on how they feel, others like myself and a few others are always around, and I try to read most posts and comment in accordance with my availability of spare time.
I guess my lack of appreciation of your continuous scum reference is because I find it quite degrading when you apply to their fan base collectively as I know it’s not anywhere near true or accurate.

Using your own words Liz, if you don’t like what I’ve written feel free not to comment as I’m sure it’s best we both agree to disagree and move on. At least dealing with it this way we can avoid you going missing for a few weeks at such an exciting time for those of us who support Ipswich Town FC which is something we all have in common.

PS; Apologies to all for the ramble. It just kept coming. 😮
I actually backed away form this forum because of this Norwich scum thread and what this hate filled individual had been writing. Just got fed up engaging with it. Really good post and sums up my views entirely.
The irony is the behaviour being displayed is what is being condemned on the other side !

I don't remember having any interaction with Norwich fans back when visits to Portman Road were a fortnightly occurrence.

Maybe because they were in the Second Division and no-one where I lived supported them; plus ça change.

Ok, I'll explain why my personal opinion is so harsh and to some OTT.

Firstly it shouldn't take a genius to understand the reference is not aimed at anyone from or living in Norwich, which by the way is a fine City and puts grubby Ipswich in the shade.

The reference is to the fans of that sad little club who for years and years have had fun at our expense with their nasty comments and laughter at our expense, which by the way I can deal with as its "football rivalry banter", what I can't deal with and sit back and accept is the other vile stuff from the scum fans, I'll give you a couple of examples.

Liz has explained the first one, the attempted abush o Town fans, young and old, male and female, tooling themselves up with sticks, poles and god knows what else, but for police I'm sure some could have been injured that day.

The one that really got me was the Kevin Beattie thread some years back, attacking and ridiculing our greatest ever player, seeing them laughing and insulting him while making reference of the fact his partner had thrown hot oil or whatever it was in his face snd hospitalising him, also getting joy from him falling on hard times and claiming benefits while living in a council house, then the time he had pancreatitis which seemed to give them pleasure. For me it goes beyond football rivalry and indeed makes them scum.

Then we have the time they found it hilarious to see Ipswich had its very own "Jack the ripper" as 5 girls were murdered, funny to them as they were prostitutes and we here in Ipswich had its own red light area, the comments were disgusting and frankly the actions of scum, nothing to do with football but aired on a football chat forum nonetheless.

Or maybe some find it acceptable and normal for them to ridicule and take the p*ss out of the young Town fan that does You tube videos, yes he clearly has learning difficulties and is somewhat slow but in this day and age to mock such people is the actions of scum.

People like Liz and myself hate them with a passion and trust me there are thousands more who share our views, but we keep it to FOOTBALL, not tragedies and other personal sh*t which they like to do.

My last point I want to make is in agreement that all clubs have their idiots (scum if you like). I was travelling to a game at Norwich, packed train full of pissed up Town fans, behind me these Three twats found it acceptable to start singing vile homophobic songs about Justin Fashanu and how he'd taken his own life etc, adding in crap about the colour of his skin, anyway I snapped and confronted them in a pretty aggressive way, suffice to say I was a "Norwich wanker" in their eyes, the point is, yes they were Town fans and yes they too were scum.

I make no apology for why I feel as strongly as I do, and yes not all Norwich fans are like that but sadly its guilty by association. I suggest if people struggle to accept certain terms and words then ignore it but you must come from some weird background if any of the above is acceptable. My views won't change and maybe my biggest error is reading too much of their bile over the years. Anyway that's my rant over.

My views are based on my personal experience of Norwich fans (in different walks of life actually). I’ve had ok experiences and some nasty ones. They’re are idiots on both sides of the fence. What I really object to is the bias from so called Regional media and the “ official” public responses from ncfc towards our club. They actually posted at one of their matches our score line ( we were losing ), and they referred to us as “scum”…. And the most recent disrespect, Delia Smith driving through the pre organised Town fans celebrations and then public ally demanding an official Club apology which went nationwide. All this despite the police asking her to not drive in that way and gave her the opportunity to drive in with her team. Ncfc shows no respect to ITFC or its fan base. So no, I don’t like them. And if you think I’m obsessed you are wrong. If you want obsessed, try looking through Norwich forums, ( not that I visit them btw). This is the ONLY thread about our rivals on here. There is rarely a comment by me on here about them but I’m vilified if I ever dare post one. It’s a football forum!!

So Mike are you guilty by association here too.
How about renaming the thread Norwich hooligan scum ?
I'm sure the Norwich forum can equally have a thread called Ipswich hooligan scum ?

I was defending what was right, I don't need to change the title of the thread, this is a football forum so the reference is clearly football related, unlike much of what they have spewed out over the years.

I'm with Liz and Mike on this. Without writing an Epic autobiography on here, most of my 68 years have been spent in and around Suffolk and Essex - indeed I still have a lot of family members living in Felixstowe and Ipswich.

Football rivalry has always included referring to your rivals as scum, not just in this part of the country but all over it (well, in England anyway). However, It it is normally used only within footballing circles - so in my opinion is just harmless banter.

It always amazes me that the PC brigade always preach tolerance and acceptance, yet they are always the ones who are so narrow minded that they cannot see beyond their own bigoted opinion.

So just let it continue - in my opinion PC remarks, together with comments about lack of intellect or childishness, smack of the most incredible pompousity and just add fuel to the fire

Yep, must say, 100% with Mike & Hallam on this. When it's all kept in the realms of football banter.

Similar occurrence to Mike years ago when Hearts boss, Graham Rix was charged with dating an underaged woman. The “Pedo” stuff sung by Hibs fans was sickening in my opinion.
If people want to bring “intellect” into the conversation……. THAT’s where it needs aimed. The “fans” on Mikes train with the Justin BS & the twats in the East Stand @ Easter Road giving it plenty to Rix.

The only sport on the planet where the insults go waaaaaay beyond the sport itself.

Imagine it?

“THATS TWO DOUBLE FAULTS JOCKEY-ITCH , YOU ANTI-Vaxxer Tosser scumboy!”

think maybe any animosity had towards them at any given time has subsided in the last few seasons at least since Mckenna and the new ownership came into force here. We've now overtaken them as East Anglia's elite and most illustrious club name what with the last two seasons and EPL promotion.

For a long time we were essentially sh*t, an embarrassment, they had the power and could exercise their temerity to find fun at our misfortune but everything's been turned on it's head and we're now arguably number one and they've fallen behind. With that any hatred has simply become less prevalent. We're just focused on our own objectives now. They've become less of a hate figure, become more anonymous maybe.

Not that they’re watching and commenting on all things Ipswich eh! That’s not allowed on rivals forums is it ! This Ipswich thread is on page FOUR!

Not to go against the grain or anything, but there were more intelligent contributors on that page 4 you posted than arseholes.
Think that actually dotted the T’s and crossed the i’s that all football forums have two sides of “the schwartz”!

I am agreeing with the ones who say that Ipswich Town and the owners are doing things properly. They are on there.

The ones who are saying, "put an R beside their name" are basically the less than intelligent ones. They are basically mirroring me regarding HMFC.

Ah, I see, thanks for the clarification marko.

And as for them, well I’m definitely putting a massive R by their scrawny name in the Championship!

Do you know marko, up until the comments on here accusing me of being fixated by them and shouldn’t be posting anything narwich, I actually NEVER went on the sh*t forums….now I find myself looking lol!!

It’s interesting to see just how fixated they are with us and how derogatory they are- so it’s not all one way as done on here would have you believe. And this pink in site is “ mild” compared to utter vitriol posted about us in their so called wrath of the barclay site. Utter gargbage.
