2 weeks to go and.......

Post by Bluemike » Fri Aug 02, 2024 11:56 am

Not gonna lie, I'm feeling a little bit uneasy, I am just concerned pre season has been anything but smooth thus far and not what is required to enter into a Premier League campaign.

I have no doubt that the fitness etc on the training pitch is right up where it should be but taking into account the Two games we've played, coupled with today's cancellation of a meaningful game just doesn't seem sufficient build up, I know we have 2 friendlies tomorrow and next week but it's getting mighty close to kick off.

When you factor in injuries to Broadhead, Burns, Al-Hamadi, Clarke etc and realising Tuanzebe and Hutchinson have had zero game time I just get the feeling we are quite a way behind where we should be.

The signings have been pretty slow too the last week or so, having wasted time on Philogene the same is happening with Szmodics now as well, yes we have Townsend in this week but a back up player in truth. All in all I just can't help feeling it hasn't gone according to plan thus far, a really big and important Two weeks coming up, things need to start moving.

I wouldn’t be surprised if McKenna is getting frustrated regarding signings as well. Perhaps that was why He made the statement about the numbers that are required in order to make us competitive. Hopefully these will happen sooner rather than later as the way the squad stands at the moment we are really going to struggle.

I'll reserve some judgement until I see us in person vs Nice.

Also you could argue our season really starts when we play Fulham, the other 2 games are huge challenges.

If we got a good CM and AML in within the next few days I'd be a bit more confident. I'm switching between moods right now - so trying not to comment too much. One minute I'm thinking we will do OK, next its pure doom :D

I think we are 2 quality signings short of being competitive for survival. I say that as someone who barely saw a top half finish last season, so I wouldn't listen to myself, but that's how it feels to me.

I think Delap may be a huge waste of money as i keep banging on about, again I can be wrong and hope I'm wrong, but he reminds me a lot of Wickham, and I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not at this point...

I fully agree with both those points

I also agree about Delap and also would like to add Szmodics, I would rather we bought Brereton Diaz.

Don't worry Mike, when he's knocking in his 20th goal of the season and proving us wrong, we'll be singing as loud as anyone!

Just seen a thread on twtd by someone who’s saying Hirst is injured and out for 6 weeks! I bet it’s that hamstring injury again

Have to say I had the same concerns a few weeks ago, and the responses I got gave me the impression there was nothing to worry about.

Well I hate to be the beater of bad news, but nothing has happened in the past two weeks to suggest we’ll be ready for premier league football.

Remember we only have to be better than three other teams.

Any news on that, who looks likely to get them ? Leicester, Forrest, Everton?

Yes, I think Villa were originally mentioned.

I think villa and Chelsea have dodged it by doing those iffy deals between each tower for youth players at vastly inflated fees.

I believe some of the other clubs involved have done similar.
