Town are claimed to be showing interest in Brighton midfielder Malick Yalcouye.

According to the Daily Express, Bundesliga sides Hoffenheim and Freiburg have made loan offers for the 19-year-old with the Blues also keen but yet to make an approach and with the Seagulls assessing their options.

Ivory Coast U23 international Yalcouye spent 2024/25 on loan at Sturm Graz in Austria having joined Brighton for £6 million from IFK Goteborg last summer. He had moved to the Allsvenskan side in the preceding February from Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas.

Yalcouye, who is 5ft 7in tall, was born in Mali and also qualifies to play international football for the country of his birth.

Despite having signed Dutchman Azor Matusiwa from Rennes in France on Sunday, the Blues are in the market for more central midfielders with loanees Jens Cajuste and Kalvin Phillips having moved on at the end of the season, Massimo Luongo having been released and skipper Sam Morsy close to joining Kuwait SC.

As revealed yesterday, Town are keen to sign Middlesbrough’s England U21 international Hayden Hackney.

Never heard of him.

I don't think we've seen the end of the Hutchinson thing just because the relegation clause has now expired.

That expired clause now leaves a transfer possible for any fee and any conditions.

Of course, we don't want to sell him and on that basis could set an extremely un-realistic price on him. But what if he decides he wants out? He may well think he's good enough to be playing in the PL, and we all know that players can hold clubs to ransom when they don't want to be there.

That was exactly my point Rossi, players and agents have so much power these days that contracts become worthless. To be fair to Omari he hasn’t personally become involved yet and until he does all of this is pure media speculation. Of course he has a career to manage and the prospect of up to 4 years wasted in the Championship won’t enhance that so I can understand if he may want to move on. I think our best hope is that McKenna and Ashton can convince him to give us another year rather than risk a season with a bigger club simply sitting on the bench with limited game time.

Yeah that's pretty much how I see it, except I can see it as being potentially worse.
Let's assume he really wants to go, and a PL club puts in an offer of, say, £25m. Of course, we would reject it out of hand, but the player could then get the hump and refuse to train or not try very hard when he plays. We may be forced then to cut our losses and let him go as we're not a big club that could afford to let him languish in the reserves for the rest of his contract (a la Man Utd)

Little different in the sense the club can clearly state we spent £20m on you, have improved you so clearly aren’t going to sell you for virtually the same amount.

He has four years left so even if he did go on strike it would only harm his career, ie if he doesn’t play or play well then certainly nobody will buy him.

Man Utd is different as those players aren’t going to get the salary they get at Utd elsewhere. So although career wise it’s bad if they stay and rot - at least financially it makes sense for them.

Maybe he needs better players around him to be at his best.

I’m happy we now seem to be scaling the international market for players with different attributes. How many times have we said we need the type of players who can execute KM’s game plan. Hopefully, the players we bring in will be more suited for KM’s style.

Interesting that they have raised their price by the same amount that we are rumoured to have raised the price for Hutchinson.
