Royle admits Striker Problems...

Post by Dazza » Thu Dec 29, 2005 6:32 pm

Joe Royle is closing in on a permanent deal for West Ham's Gavin Williams but he admits that he is growing increasingly desparate to bring a striker to Portman Road.

The Hammers midfielder has been enjoying a hugely successful loan spell in Suffolk and it is understood that Royle has already slammed a cash offer in front of the West Ham board.

Although the Welsh international will stay with The Tractor Boys until his loan deal expires in the middle of January, a permanent switch looks likely to be sealed when the transfer window opens on Sunday.

That would leave the way clear for Royle to divert his attentions towards his depleted strike force. Although he is leaving no stone unturned in a bid to tempt a goalscorer to the club, the former Manchester City boss admits that he keeps drawing blanks.

"At the moment we are hitting brick walls," he told the East Anglian Daily Times. "Everyone wants front players and we have asked but at the moment there is no real opportunity to bring one in.

"We are looking at trialists from all over the globe but that is all we have. We are hoping that Adam Proudlock will be fit in a week or so but that is where we are."

An interesting definition of "hugely successful".

He admits we have a striker problem (we don't have any), and he signs a player we don't need, with money we don't have, who hasn't been that impressive whilst he's been here.

And we're not flushing town down the toilet, no.
