I'm not quite sure why I'm reading posts saying Royle should go because he's released 3 youngsters who have never impressed either at first team level or even in the Reserves!!
It seems to me that some people are just looking for excuses to get on Joe's back. What would you prefer, a good, young but small competitive squad with players on the bench who can come on and step up to this level when required - OR would you rather have a large squad, full of overrated, average youngsters who won't make it to the level we play at and are merely a drain on our 'delicate' wage budget.
I just think some people need to be realistic, we have plenty of good youngsters remaining at the club and Joe hasn't been afraid to give the likes of Supple, Price, Garvan, Haynes, Barron a chance - particularly Haynes who he has persevered with. The future will still be bright don't you worry....

Exactly, agree with everything there. In my opinion were moving forward, slowly, but forward. Just because 3 youngsters have gone, who IMO wouldnt of broken into the team anytime soon, its time for Royle to go again
As you said, we've still got alot of good youngsters coming through now, these 3 obviously couldnt make it.

I think Qbert hit the nail on the head with his post:
A sound post IMHOA lot of good points have been raised thus far and here is my two penneth worth.
Having watched all three players at either 1st team, Reserves or Youth I am just a little bit confused.
I thought Liam Criag was a very good player with a good first touch and seemed to make some very good crosses into the box.
Cathal Lordon was the spitting image of "Magic" but with pace. His first touch was nowhere near as good as some but he tried hard.
Aiden Collins although he looked a reasonable defender he never inspired confidence in his fellow players or the fans.
So in short, I believe Aiden will make a good lower league defender but is not upto Championship level "yet". GOOD DECISION
Lordon although showing potential needs more time to fully develop, so either spend more money on keeping him or let him move on. GOOD DECISION
Liam Criag, I believe he has the talent to play at this level but with the level of midfielders at the club when Peters etc.. are ahead of him would it be in his best interest to stay. I would like to think a 1 year contract would be an idea, but it is squad wages that could go to better use. RIGHT DECISION.
So although I may not like the thought of the young gund being let go I can see the logic behind it.
It has been said many times that if you unearth 1 genuine talent per year from your youth squad you are doing well.
Well we have Owen Garven, Danny Haynes, Shane Supple to name but a few so I think we doing a good job.

Speaking personally I don't say "Royle out" seriously over these three lads, but I will for the performances so far this season, his tactics, his team selections, his substitutions, the lack of professionalism in his teams, and the complete sh*te he talks after every game. But thats just my opinionI'm not quite sure why I'm reading posts saying Royle should go because he's released 3 youngsters who have never impressed either at first team level or even in the Reserves!!

Re: Joe Royle
spot on !! if we want to get back to a "quality" squad - it's no good wasting time on players that will simply not make the require standards set by Town !Lewis wrote:I'm not quite sure why I'm reading posts saying Royle should go because he's released 3 youngsters who have never impressed either at first team level or even in the Reserves!!

It is precisley because we set these high standards - that Town's Acadamy is one of the best in the Country ...and we are now begining to see quality young players come through into the first team. Fans should be pleased that the staff continue to look for the highest quality and refuse to accept "second best" - we'll leave that approach to clubs like Norwich shall we !
Town are not doing anything different to what they have always practised in the development of young talent....
Money received from the likes of
Dyer
Bent
Ambrose
Wright
Wark
Osman
Butcher
Bowditch ?
the list goes on ....is not a "coincidence" ...and serves to illustrate just how astute the coaching staff are at ITFC.
So instead of "having a go" ..and trying to turn in JR as a "failure" some people should wise up !!
