Blackburn have agreed to release Matt Jansen after the striker became frustrated at a lack of first-team action for Mark Hughes' side.
The 28-year-old has started only 13 Premiership matches since his recovery from a 2002 motorcycle accident.
Chairman John Williams said: "Given Matt's contribution over the years we feel we should not stand in his way.
"He needs a new challenge and on behalf of everyone connected with the club we wish him well."
Jansen moved to Rovers from Crystal Palace for £4.1m in January 1999.
He was tipped to win England honours until a road accident left him in a coma for four days.
He recently revealed his desire to leave Ewood Park, saying: "This is the hardest - and yet probably the most sensible - decision I have ever made.
"I am not a troublemaker and I do not kick up a stink if I am not in the team but enough is enough."
Jansen has since been linked with a move to Championship
Good aquisition maybe?

Sign him up until the end of the season is what I say!!! Give the guy a chance gives him the platform to prove he can still cut it and might give us the goals to move up the table!!!
That would certainly be a more positive signing than a cardiff reserve player!! Not that I am knocking Alan Lee - just a much bigger name!!

Alan Lee, Matt Jansen?
To be honest there's only 3 letters in it.

People really need to wake up, and stop posting news about released premiership players as it they are potential targets.
We can't afford Championship players who are first-teamers, how on earth do people propose to fund Premiership wages? Look at the signings we've made since August:
Parkin - Lower Division
Forster - Injured, released on a free by Reading
Lee - Not first-team at Cardiff
We're doing this because of money - we are NOT a big club anymore, at least not financially, and dreaming of picking up, even has-beens from the premiership, is just unrealistic - our wage structure is never going to support it

I know like me you´ve been a little negative mork but this post is a breath of fresh air.......right on the money.People ought to know the days of us attracting a quailty first teamer from even another championship side are well and gone.Even the style we play can not attract a player that like the ball to feet and if joe does´nt buck his ideas up we will end up with a team of has beens who like nothing but the ball in the air all afternoon.

These are the players we should be looking at. Why not..?? Otherwise we'll just lack ambition and just be a regaulr side in the Championship. Attracting one or two has beens from the premiership could only make the squad stronger.

Because we DONT HAVE THE MONEY.
Looking at players like this is like looking at buying a brand new Ferrari when you earn 10k a year. Unrealistic and a waste of your time.
