is steve stauntons nickname stan???? cos in the press conference today bobby kept calling steve stan????? or is bobby really going senile????

Yes it's his nickname.
Not sure how he got it but it wouldn't surprise me if Jack Charlton gave it to him when he was Republic manager as he notoriously couldn't remember anyone's name!

(Steve Staunton, incidentally, wasn't nicknamed after Stan Laurel, but his fair features and hangdog countenance have often misled people into thinking that he was.
Found the above in a vey long story about Robson/Staunton & the FAI.

the nick name stuff was hilarious,but what I did not like ,was how Staunton,said he was the boss,the gaffer,the buck stops with me,and I will use Bobby as I see fit.....to me it sounds a bit arrogant,and Sir Bobby is looking a little desperate to be back in the game.
