Royle: Not ruling out a play-off push

Post by Dazza » Sun Jan 22, 2006 8:27 am

Ipswich boss Joe Royle was targeting a push for the play-offs after his side leapfrogged Southampton into 14th place in the Championship.

Alan Lee struck after just three minutes and capped a deserved 2-0 win at St Mary's with a second shortly before full-time, his first goals for Ipswich since his recent move from Cardiff.

"I'm pleased for Alan. He's come to us to start scoring goals again," said Royle. "I've always liked him as a player, and you could see that he can play, he isn't just a physical presence.

"Before he arrived we've been playing a 4-6-0 formation as we've had no strikers. That's hard for a side that likes to go forward.

"We're not getting too excited, we're a long way from the play-offs, but with a few more players coming back you never know."

looking at our fixture list, the home games make good reading...with burnley, leicester, millwall, hull, stoke, brighton, derby all to play at ip1.

with this form we should beat all them or the vast majority anyway.

the away fixtures are a tad tougher,lol.......as for making the play-off's,not sure about that this season, but next season i'm almost certain we will make a push for promotion,IF WE DON'T SELL THE LIKES OF GARVAN.

I don't see why we can't make a push for the play-off places. With no team currently winning all their games there no reason why we can't make a push. I just hope Ipswich are an exception to the rule and can put a string of wins together, if so, May could be a very exciting month.

Not really, we have already been to Leeds, Sheffield Utd and Reading.

Theres never been a better time to beat Norwich...

We have turned the corner... I can see us rising. Not sure if we can make the play offs, depends how other teams do.

true we have played the top 3 away from home, but the likes of preston, watford and palace will be tough games i think, not to mention wolves in there because they are and always have been hit and miss i think,on a bad day they are bad....on a good day ther are very good.

sides like plymouth, burnley, luton could also go either way.
