PNE v Town Being their is so different.....

Post by loudnproud » Wed Mar 15, 2006 5:19 am

What can i say that may have already been said....
Cold nite, wet but not frozen and a 14000 crowd of which a good 500+ was the fantastic travelling faithful for this 6 pointer clash with PNE. I felt that our key man on the nite was going to be Fuller as i felt that we needed 11 v11 out their last nite and couldnt afford to carry anyone underperforming. The mere fact that Fuller was Boooed when he started and boooed whenever he got the ball, gave me hope that he had something to prove.
The sending off was viewed by myself as a bit harsh,Bam Bam was a good 2 yards behind and gaining, The challenge was not from behind,The momentum from his run along with the wet skiddy pitch resulted in a clash. The referee decided that a profesional foul was committed and red carded Bam Bam.....A good game was thus ruined..

Though we took the lead through a cross from a corner kick onto De-vos's terry butcher style head wound, PNE were simply not finnishing their many chances and one felt that mabe, just mabe we could nick it. I very seldom attach blame towards a poor referee but in this instance,The man in yellow was giving us nothing. At one stage we were down to 8 men and not a single yellow card to be seen from the ref!!!

Town did not give up the fight and roll over and die when down to 10 men.We tried to play passing football on a pitch that was soon becomming an allotment. It must be said though that with Fuller and Lee up front and on paper a good pairing, Both neither had a shot on the PNE goal.In fact we didnt have a shot on goal the whole nite with the exception of one right foot effort from Richards on his weak right foot sailing high over the bar into row Z.
Taking currie off for westy had to be done, we needed to inject some pace into mid-field and have a ball winner,Loosing our creative player(sic) had to happen. Juan was struggling with the conditions and i felt that taking him off was more of a precaution.Sito dropping into right back,Richards just in front, with Mr Ipswich (Fabian) joining De-vos in the centre. 80 mins,10 men and a heavy tireing pitch....we were facing a firing squad!! The fact that it took so long for PNE to score was a credit to our fitness levels of our players. We started with two strikers Lee and Fuller,we finnished with two strikers,Lee and Haynes, many other teams may of packed the defence up and loose the strike force,a brave decision by BFJ that failed to happen.
The conditions and poor refereeing were major factors in our loss last nite,Nugent took both of his goals well and should of had a hat-trick,I understand that his fluffed shot near the end may have resulted in a broken bone in his foot,If that is the case,I am yet again filled with optimism that PNE's season could be over and a play off door left slightly ajar.

I said on another post that our next two games against PNE and Palace will determine if our season is over or not. any less that 3 points from palace on saturday and i guess it firmly is over.
I simply must applaud the "Blue Army" yet again for the fantastic show of numbers.I know that their were lots of regular faces that could not make it my son included. Our away support never stops amazing me.I may have one of the biggest gob's on the terraces, but its been a pleasure sharing my big gob with all of you.....see ya awl at Palace and continue to enjoy your season.

Can only echo Earl's comments.

It's always nice to read the views of a someone who was at the match and saw it for themselves.

Most match reports in the papers are rubbish.
